Crowd-Powered “OGGtours” Wins Cambrian House IdeaWarz Tournament of Champions
Sept. 26, 2007 – No longer ask yourself, “where am I?” or “what’s that?” while lugging around a backpack or dragging a suitcase... OGGtours, an idea submitted to the Cambrian House crowdsourcing community, was announced today as winner of the Tournament of Champions. Jay Johnson of Los Angeles, who submitted the idea, defines OGGtours as “opensource audio guides to the world’s most interesting destinations.”
Out of the 1,157 ideas submitted in the 13 weekly mini-tournaments leading up to the Tournament of Champions, Jay’s idea was chosen as top dog. As winner, Jay will receive $2,500, one-on-one business mentorship from renowned start-up mentor Sean Wise of Toronto-based Wise Mentor Capital to take OGGtours to market successfully.
Cambrian House’s crowdsourcing platform allows members to leverage the wisdom and participation of crowds for commercial purposes. For Jay, this meant he harnessed the opinions of thousands of Cambrian House members to polish his pitch and feel confident he should invest in taking OGGtours to market. Should he choose to work with the crowd to continue to build OGGtours, he can post jobs, search for employees and crowd-funding, and more at Cambrian House.
About OGGtours
OGGtours are opensource audio guides to the world’s most interesting destinations. An OGGtour is something like a collective audio blog that can be listened to on location. Anyone can add comments and contribute to the development of an OGGtour. Standard OGGtours will be free, and can be downloaded onto an iPod or Mp3 player, or streamed directly to a mobile device such as a Blackberry, smartphone, or iPhone. OGGtours can also be converted to formats that can be used on location by GPS devices.
