Cambrian House Launches Web's First Wishing Well

The Spirit of Robin Hood Lives On With Opportunity to Make and Grant Wishes At RobinhoodFund.com And On Second Life

Web 2.0 Conference, San Francisco, Calif. – Nov. 8, 2006 – Cambrian House Inc., a leading commercial crowdsourcing software company, is launching its newest crowdsourced creation, Robinhood Fund.  Based on tales of the legendary Robin Hood, the fund is the first crowdsourced charity that invites everyday people to make wishes come true.  The crowd can submit a wish at RobinhoodFund.com and vote on the wishes that they would like to see come true.  The most popular wishes are then granted and receive a collection of funds.

“The greatest feature of Robinhood Fund is that you can be selfish, selfless or even both at the same time,” said Michael J. Sikorsky, Cambrian House CEO. “You can make a selfish wish in the Me, Myself and I category, then go and vote on others' wishes in the Help Me Help Others category.”

RobinhoodFund.com will be the primary online destination for wishful thinkers and anyone looking to do a good deed. Crowds vote on wishes categorized by Twist of Fate; Health and Wellness; Me, Myself and I; Help Me Help Others, and a sponsored Weekly Wish topic. The Weekly Wish topics are selected by sponsors and can range from home improvement wishes, to mental health, technology and more.

The Robinhood Fund is also accessible through Second Life on Cambrian House's BattleAxe Island.  Second Life residents can visit the virtual wishing well on the island to make their wishes for one Linden dollar.

Each week the wish that receives the most votes in each category will be granted and announced on the website. The Robinhood Fund sustains itself through a five dollar fee that is collected for each wish made.  The monies are then gathered from the well at the end of each week and distributed to the wishes that were chosen. Approximately 20 percent of the funds from the wishing well are reinvesting into running the Robinhood Fund website.

“We are pleased to see a great variety of wishes,” said Sikorsky.  “We really like watching the community pull together for the benefit of others.  There was even a Cambrian House community member that submitted a wish that would benefit another community member, which illustrates just how the Robinhood Fund will help bring others together and benefit the crowd.”

During its market test phase, Cambrian House community members and the public were invited to submit wishes and vote. There were a total of 85 wishes that were submitted for the first round.  Cambrian House community members can continue to participate in crowdsource development of the website by taking on new tasks as they are posted.
