It is amazing what common sense adds to a business idea...
I started life as a system engineer. At the age of 26 I switched into the role of sales. My first sales job was a huge success. After only 3 months on the job I was pretty fed up with the presidents disorganization. I asked him if I could run the sales dept. He agreed. We went from $250K/month to $3M/month in gross revenue after my first 10 months as the new National Sales Mgr. I have also played the role of VP of Marketing where I had another company hire me based upon my reputation. They said that I could have the big office, lots of money, and could spend the 1st 30 days thinking of what I wanted to do for them. After 30 days I told them they were making the wrong product and what the new product should look like. They didn't want to change. I quit. 3 days later they called me and asked me to come back. They let me direct engineering to build the new product. 10 months later they were on the front cover of some major computer publications and the company grew 3X. My largest success that nobody knows about is that I came up with the original idea to start the Storage Networking Industry Association. (SNIA.ORG) I put the original idea in the hands of a gifted industry analyst who (along with my help) pulled all the players together to get it off the ground. He of course gets the credit for founding it... but I know that I put the original idea into play... I have been fortunate to see the computer industry morph many times and feel I have a unique talent for understanding what will work and how to sell and market it. Currently I know what the next big thing is... I am still pondering what to do with this idea. I am reviewing this site to see how it works. Not sure if running the idea through this mechanism will result in the type of payback that I am expecting. ;)
