Every one has MS paint, it is easy to use. But, has a lack in a lot of tools. There are a lot of other paint programs, but they are to complex, to hard to Learn, or cost to much. My idea is a remake of Paint, program. Same easy to use, but has the features other users want and need. Because not very many people use all of the tools in the complex programs and they cost to much. This would not be reinvention the the wheel just some simple additions. A Mid-ground program between high cost complex, and easy to use free. It should not be hard to program. Money: *The program could be free open source, but have a website for support and development that has adverts/donations. *Shareware, that would let you use some of the features and just block a few additions and has a banner image on start-up for a sec or two. To make you want to buy it. This program should be low cost like $1 to $4, something that is not a rip off. Easy to use + Low Cost + A few Good Features = Great Product!
Using MS paint after using some of my other complex expensive program. I though MS paint sucks because it dose not have some basic additions for today's image programs. Also, that my complex programs are so hard to learn, I end up using paint first and then use touch-ups.
I like it. I mostly use PaintShopPro7, so i'm not going to use the program, but i think it is a good idea.
No, I'm not up all night to post comments, here in Denmark it is actually about 8:30.
Been done, same name. This program is availible on new computers, and I think you can download it online as well.
GIMP
"GIMP"
Complex, hard to use, way to many popup windows used for toolbars. Also, hard to use and to learn and loading is very slow.
"This program is availible on new computers"
The new vista paint added only a few (very few features) I know because I have vista. It dose not have any of the features.
Also, keep in mind I am not really talking about a copy of MS paint, I was using it as more of a comparison because it is so simple.
"I mostly use PaintShopPro7"
I have Photo Shop & Paint Shop myself, but I don't like the wait time for it to load or trying to navigate a million little features. Think of this idea as an alternative, for all the quick edits users need to make.
Also, the price tag on Photo Shop, Paint Shop, etc... is to high for most users. There is a huge target market of users that can't spend the time to learn, or money on programs like Photo Shop or Paint Shop.
Most people have go to school to learn how to use Photo Shop & Paint Shop before they ever can ever use all the features.
any idea what happend with paint with vista?
I found this site because I was googling to find a better version of Paint. I would definately pay that price for a simple program I would use and not feel guilty about money wasted on features I won't use.
That is basically the idea, as simple and powerful paint program.
Not aimed at the pros that need thousands of little tools, so they can have just the right percentage of crayon for there industrial prints and what not.
This program would be aimed at home users and aspiring artists. People that don't have the budget for the expensive professional programs and are never going to need all of the tools and features.
Try Paint .net
It is great and free.
http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html
Patmania hit it dead on.
Paint.net is exactly what you are talking about, and its free.
Sorry.
Google makes a paint program Picassa, no?
In any case, there are so many out there, that it's not worth re-inventing the wheel.
To late.
Tommy
hmmm
Paint is easy to use because it has a lack of tools.
The Gimp
Moogy brings up a good point... The Gimp (free) is a lot like what you are describing. Is there anything you can offer that will make your service more attractive than The Gimp?
Covered this before "GIMP":
Complex, hard to use, way to many popup windows used for toolbars. Also, hard to use, hard to learn and loading is very slow.
This program is going to take away a lot of the learning curve. It is not going to try and fit every little task on the screen that you are never going to use. It is not going to take forever to start up the program. It is not going to try and use pop ups for every mindless task.
This program is going to be paint on steroids and crack.
"GIMP"
Wonderful and cheap
as in, no money
Paint.NET: http://www.getpaint.net/
Ah, I see what you mean about The GIMP. It is very user un-friendly and as a whole is geared toward more professional users and enthusiasts alike who may not have the cash to shell out for more expensive options. I can't comment on Paint.NET as I'm a Mac user!
GIMP really sucks, even the professional artists that I know hate GIMP. As, for Paint.NET I am pretty sure you need the Microsoft .NET software to run that. I have not reviewed the program. So, I am not quite sure.
paint.net is free and more powerful than most users need. You can even download the source code for free, if you want to modify it yourself. You can even freely distribute and even sell the software provided you include the copyright and permission notices. I don't see how you can compete with that.
Paint.net looks pretty good to me.
So this business model could be to repackage paint.net into a different offering.
I think there would still be room to compete. You still can not even run it on all computer types and you need Microsoft.net to run it on windows computers. Paint.net still has its downfalls as far as features.
I am definitely not planing on repackaging other peoples code.
contrary to "popular" opinion ... I like the idea.
I have often wished MS Paint was a little more robust without degrading into a Corel or Adobe experience/price tag.
of the 5300+ ideas in here ... many of the nuggets of gold have likely been covered over by the latest lousy ones.
Isnt Correl much better and keep improving (than pagemaker and paint)?
Kevin_Cox, can you give a couple of examples of how you would use the program you describe?
Honestly i used Paint to put my scan pic as screen saver only..while my child used it as my intro for his pc friendly experience by simlpy drawing liberally and keep his focus and be creative the way any paper and crayons can.
Above this am ignorant on how much PAINT can served me than other application the office is currently using.
Well, that is the point the current paint sucks.
I don't like paint much either, and use Photoshop at work(polar opposites, I suppose). What *did* you envision for CoxPaint? paint + diagram-like templates? or photo resize/rotate/cropping, or... colour adjusting?
Adding caption baloons? Japanese "print club" type stamps?
Maybe...
If it's too simple (paint) then it sucks because it's hard to draw/make anything interesting (unless your really good and have time and patience)
if you add one feature then somebody wants another one.
if... if... you make it paint level basic, and keep the architecture open, then you could download extra modules according to the main usage of... CoxPaint, like a warp/distort/blur effects module. Or a Stamping tool. And then you could muck around with all the different modules, but just keep 2 or 3 default to reduce load times, and reduce system requirements.
Maybe. I think a photoshop type paintbrush thing that only had crop/resize/contrast so I could drag'n'drop images for emailing (Actually, a decent thunderbird/whatever email client plugin would be good) would be practical.
Paint has a lack of tools because it's free... I'm sure you can buy better paint programs, but when stuff is free you should be happy with the things you get ;)
well...even its free its handy converting other pic files to jpeg...
more than that of course i better get another application for the other works requirements.
So why incorporate to something existing, am sure Bill Gates wont tap your shoulder for the promotion ;-) why not create a new one? Say a name CANVASS2.0 for the improve and innovative Paint2.0 and other thing you got in your head?
Just my wild thought here.
The gimp is not hard to use or complex. You can also use the source from gimp to make your own version that has the features you want in it.
http://www.cinepaint.org is a version of gimp for professionals in the movies biz.
The Gimp still is a valid solution to start your idea....
]V[oogy
a good enough idea. if you get it past the "this would be cool" stage and then really create something that is easy to sit down and doodle on - but have options for more complex work - I'll be impressed.
I think it is possible.
Have you tried Ultimate Paint? Free program with a lot more tools than Paint and easy to use. I found it easy to find my way around in it.
paint.net requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 be installed. GIMP is a wonky program, not at all intuitive. For best results, I use Photoshop, but that's my line of work.
Related idea: I'd like to see a module for Wikis (MediaWiki) that allows simple image manipulation. The power of a wiki is the low-barrier to edits. But the model doesn't work with images right now, because you have to download the image, edit in some other program an re-upload.
We should be able to crop, annotate, draw on top of, rotate, and other simple manipulations right in the wiki browser interface.
