The Elevator Pitch

For Homeowners / Collectors / Hobbyists / Strata Organizations who have to deal with leaking automobiles from tennants / owners or visitors the RoadRunner(TM) driveway oil mat is a recycleable absorbent driveway / garage oil mat. that helps protect your driveway / garage from unsightly and damaging oil stains. Unlike cardboard, carpet, plywood, vinyl mats, chemicals or clay absorbents our product is non-flammable, wind resistent, environmentally friendly, cost effective and esthetically pleasing..

The Idea

The RoadRunner driveway oil mat consists of an interlocking polyethylene frame and a recycleable replaceable absorbent pad. The frame is low profile, therefore wind resistent. The pad is non-flammable, therefore it is favored by insurance companies and fire departments over the so-common cardboard/plywood and carpet. The RoadRunner driveway oil mat will hold up to 3 litres of oil or approximately 1 gallon. This product helps keep children and family pets safe from ingesting oils and antifreeze and helps keep these hazardous drips out of our drinking water and marine habitats. Esthetically, there is no comparison! Please check out my website and have a look: www.roadrunnermat.com

I thought of this idea when I was...

I worked in the pavement industry for 10 years and this was the most common problem I had to deal with.

Maybe you can allow customers to choose their own colors and designs on the mats. Sort of custom oil mats or "pimp my oil mat". ;)

Echo the comments above: if you already have this product on the market, what do you need from us?

how can it be environmentally friendly if it obsorbs oil? oil is bad for the environment on it's own and a disposable mat that obsorbs it means to me that these things will be going into landfills and lasting years until they rot away and lose there contents. not to mention that many garbage disposal people won't know it contains oil which has to be disposed of safely in most places

I like the idea for the garage, but how do you keep the thing from flying away/walking off to the neighbor's driveway when it's just sitting out there in your driveway? I'm presuming you're not intending for people to move it every morning and evening?

The product website seems to address the recycling and how-to-not-blow-away issues raised above, but it is still not clear why the concept is being crowdsourced ex post facto.

Psych Angle 1: A related opportunity here is somehow getting people to fix their leaking cars: perhaps including a coupon with the product? JiffyLube or some other large chain might bite on subsidies. They might even stock the product in their shops -- though it might send a mixed message in that environment. Someplace like Sears would make the most sense for retail placement.

Psych Angle 2: If the product really makes leak absorption so much more manageable, I wonder if it would placate some people such that they defer necessary repairs to their vehicle. Also, don't leaking cars still leak when driven and parked at work for the day... that brings us back to fixing the problem at the source, doesn't it?

Nonetheless, the product does seem to contain and manage a real problem that people have. I think it's pretty good.
