Campaign-Canvas is a hub for those bearing campaigns, artists, those looking for outstanding designs to support their campaigns.

As a community portal it will enable people to promote their campaigns, connect, and shop for a cause.

This is for anyone who:

- Wants to promote their campaign (s)
- Has campaigns and needs great designs to promote their campaigns

or
- Has great designs to support good causes
- Feels like creating great designs to support good causes

or
Is both of the above

---------------------------------------

So, this is like DeviantArt.com meets Idealist.org meets Goodstorm.com
Only it's cooler Tongue

---------------------------------------

Why is this cool idea:
- It is a great help for you to promote your campaigns for good causes
- You can have your own campaign page
- Your campaigns will get many more visitors and much more exposure, you can accept donation via the web

What kind of media will you be supporting? Is this primarily images? Because if you're looking to facilitate collaboration on the media side of campaigns I think you need to think about potentially complicated workflows. It might be people swapping Photoshop or GIMP files rather than the typical image swapping found on social network sites. How do you see a typical campaign unfolding?

iamagel,
Thanks :)

And hi and thanks Gordon :)

Yes, this will be primarily images.
But no, it doesn't intend (yet) to facilitate collaboration on the media side, rather to facilitate partaking.

As in, those great in designs will be able to support a cause by submitting their designs under suitable ‘campaign themes’.
- They can choose to release their designs under various licensing options: GNU General Public License, Creative Commons Licenses, Professional Licenses.

Those looking for designs can browse and use them, according to licenses they are submitted under.

(I'm also thinking of having an 'Professional License' option, this is for professional artists who want to sell reproduction licenses of their designs)

But your comment struck me...
Collaboration on the media side of campaigns?

Sounds exciting! (thinking now... :))

Thanks

I think this idea could use some more info about what it is and how it works. I like the logo.

Are you talking about some kind of library of files?

campaigns? what kind of campaign? Political campaign, charity drive or self-promotion? You lost me from the very beginning of your idea.

Please be more specific so even those of us who sit in the back of the class can follow along. We hate it when our heads hurt by the extra thinking/guessing.

Kevin_Cox, mashersmasher, siti, rangkuti, giganull:
Thanks for comments :)

Sure, here:
As described in the title, this idea is for campaigns (or programs, projects, or organisations) with good causes.

Now which are in and which are not?
I would say that the keywords here are: public good, positive, universal.

What is the stance of political campaigns?
Well, Merriam-Webster defines 'political' as 'competition between competing interest groups or individuals for power and leadership (as in a government)'.

One of best methods to decide would be by having these questions in mind:

Is political campaign positive?
Does it promote the public good (not for assistance to any particular groups / individuals)?
Would its aim be universal / applicable to or common to all members of a group or set?

If we can't provide a straight 'yes' answer to all the above questions,
Then the campaign/program/project in the question would not fall under the definition of 'campaign' meant by this idea.

(thereof, political campaign (even if carried on in the form of charity) and self promotion do not count)

Kindly let me know is this clear enough? :)

Where does this pay for itself? Will it be advertisement, subscription or donation-based? It sounds like a great networking and idea-development site, but perhaps a little more thought as to finances should be addressed.

Also, it seems like it'd be kind of shady for some administrator to decide what campaigns are 'positive' and what are not. It's like Fox News calling itself fair and balanced--who is the judge? Perhaps you'll want to narrow down the rules a bit to "any non-profit organization" or philanthropy or something. I think that you'll probably want to automate this as much as possible (you know, so you can move on to your next venture!) and hiring someone or some group to decide on the 'goodness' of a group sounds time-consuming and a public relations nightmare if you anger the wrong group.

Hi,

Can you please explain in a semi coherent manner what you are proposing ?

Kevin_Cox
Kevin_Cox Posted: March 3, 2008, 9:58 pm

So, ya are you talking about some kind of library of files? What exactly are the "designs"?

Nickonomics101, vanhees, CharonV, Kevin_Cox -
Thanks again :)

Ok. A couple of weeks ago when I started to mull over this idea, it was mainly about the (visual) media side of (the so called) campaigns.

But then it sank in that this had a potential for something much more.

I'll try to explain it this way:

Many of us are willing to make small acts of kindness, but we often don't know how or don't want to bothered by complicated requirements / procedures.

On the other side, in our local communities there are hundreds of small non-profit organisation struggling, thinking how to get their programs financed, how to make them known to public, how to connect to yet more people, yet more minds alike.

IMHO, main problems faced by local, small-to-medium non-profit organisations are of three:
1. Funding
2. Publication
3. Networking

Main objective behind this idea is to address those problems.

This is to be a hub for non-profit organisations holding campaigns / projects, and those interested to support them.

Publication
----------
- Non-profit organisations having campaigns / projects can have themselves listed to make public their programs. One can have pages for information and details, bulletin/newsletter posting to send updates to others who are interested, even gallery of pictures.

- These organisations can't afford expensive publication. TV ads might eat up the budget of several years. Therefore poster and flyer are arguably the most common publication tools. Unfortunately, due to limited resources they are often left with poor designs.

And this is what I meant by 'designs'.

This is to be media library for 'campaign'-related themes.
One can submit designs under suitable themes. E.g. Leukemia, Illiteracy, Global Warming.
Additionally, organisations can request for specific designs, and anyone interested can offer their works.

Networking
-----------
- We provide place for organisations to connect between themselves. They might find fellow-organisations in their area, which they might be interested to share ideas and opportunities with, even to make a joint-project with in the future.

At the same time, our user can be casual participant. The goal here is to enable everyone to participate without feeling tied. And when one feels so, one can:

- Browse and search for listed campaigns that suit their interests
- Create media elements and submit them under suitable campaign themes
- Donate to causes (campaigns) of their choice
- Get campaign widgets, promote them on other sites
- Pass on campaign infos to their family and friends
- And many other things I'm currently puzzling over :D

Funding
----------
- This will provide a system that enables non-profit organisation to have their own donation page, track donation, show donation stat (quite like ChipIn). Widgets to promote the donation plea on (anything appropriate over) the web will also be provided.

- By having your campaign/program/organisation listed, you are attracting and opening chance to potential donors to provide you with the fund you need

- There are partner sites that produces user-customised products, such as Cafepress, Zazzle, etc. You can set up your gallery of products and this site will provide tools for you to feature them on us with ease, aiding you in generating income from the sales.

I apologise for the previous lack of details.
I hope this one is lucid enough though.

Please keep coming up with more feedbacks...
I promise I'll be back with more comments :)

Nickonomics101,
There are several ways possible:

- On-site advertisement

- Premium listing
Organisations that find our services useful shall be able to upgrade to premium listing

- Percentage of margin of third party partners' products.
E.g. Cafepress provides 15% commission for products sold via your site.

- Donation

- And other ways I'm still thinking of (ideas? :))

As for the 'judging' process,
We have TOS which anyone is free to peruse during registration.
'Non-profit' will be one of the requirements.

All campaigns will be approved by default,
But we provide option for members to flag any listing they find inappropriate.

Hmm. Or is there any better way to regulate?

Thanks a lot for pointing it out, Nickonomics101 :)
