The Idea

Take the most enduring board game in the history of the planet and combine it with the most popular game format on the planet and see what comes out: An original strategic two-player card game based on Chess. I invented this game in 2003. It has be produced by me on a limited scale (in both hardware and software formats) and has been sold in stores locally and now needs to be introduced to the world. How? Using the internet. A downloadable electronic version of the card game on hand held devices introduces people to the game and teaches them how to play, driving sales of both the electronic and physical versions of the game.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I thought of this idea when I was writing an adventure novel... but that"s another story... literally!

Now, don't take my comment above the wrong way, this is the 2nd best idea ive seen yet.
Cambrian would be good at this becasue the vast knoledge base would allow it to be ported to many different platfroms.
It sounds like a cool game but we need details, and we also need a plan on how to actaully make money off of it.

Thanks for your comment. It's a valid one. Your feedback is great - it takes a lot to make a cool sounding idea into a real entity.

However, here's the good news! I have already put a lot of work into it: I have designed and created the game. I have produced it and sold it on a trial basis locally. I have created a website for it.

All the details are here!
http://www.checkdeck.com
Note the link to the entry on www.boardgamegeek.com

I have also created a PDA version of the game which allows one person to play against the computer. I want to enhance it to do head-to-head multi-player and also implement it on different platforms (such as on phones).

Why is it not a raging success? I need exposure and time. Both are limited and this is where I think Cambrian House can help.

This is how it can make money:
Market the software version as shareware on sites like www.handango.com and www.palmgear.com
Vs. computer play will be free. The software advertizes that this is a software version of a real card game.

People can pay for it in one of two ways:
1) Pay money to unlock the head-to-head mode of the game (IR, Bluetooth or Internet)
2) Purchase the physical card game.

(I have already sold out of my first run of decks, then my supplier went out of business - so the whole thing is on hold right now. Cambiran House could inject the life back into the project!)

I like it! And maybe throw in a game of cards for the handheld and you got me sold. :d

I think the idea is great, but I'm pretty sure Cambrian House FAQ says they don't want existing businesses (however small). http://www.cambrianhouse.com/faq/

Of course, I'm not a CH employee, so I could be completely wrong :-)

I think this is a great idea. As to Aidan's comment, perhaps there is a distinction between Red's already existing *physical* company and the company which would produce the computer version of the game. So long as Red doesn't disclose how the game works in the submission, his physical company would (I think) retain the IP and could liscense the right to the computerized version to CH. I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but these are my thoughts regarding Aidan's excellent point.

The company (Red3Games) is not a large one, it's really just a trading name.

Cambrian House are already selling a product that someone else produced. It helps people visualize their new interior designs on the computer screen I think.
I don't think this would be much different to that really.

Check out their product store.
