The next frontier is to tap the quiet genius that exists outside organizations to attract innovations from people who are prepared to work with a company, even if they don't work for it.

The Elevator Pitch

For Fashionable film-lovers who have seen movie-stars wearing clothes that they admire the Filmstar Fashion project is a website that allows users to easily find the fashions from the movies. Unlike magazines which perform a similar function our product allows the customer to buy the product directly.

The Idea

Site helps people who've seen actor's outfits in movies and would like to buy similar ensembles in the real world.
FF would list by movies and by actor names and would display their most prominent/memorable outfits and link to online stores which sell the items.
Many trashy magazines already do a similar service in print, this would be simply lifting the idea online.
Revenue through ads and affiliate percentages from retailers.
Could also perhaps carry comment sections on the fashion in popular cinema- perhaps fashion reviews to go along with critical reviews.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Listening to my girlfriend and friends discuss wanting to find fashions from a recent film... can't remember which...

Sounds fair enough. You might also think of extending this into merchandise items/cool gadgets/goods used in movies.
Also, the film fashion idea can be an extention to my earlier idea. Thanks.

Would you be able to use these movie and movie star names legally without getting sued? Are you going to sell the actual clothing, or just reproductions? If reproductions, who is going to make it?

Think you can post the names of anyone one as you wish. Its just names. Different with logos.... Good idea, can become a big hit

@zenathor: ...well names are being copyrighted too for its commercial purpose if my poor memory serves me right.

I think that what Butaniku meant was to link to retailers currently selling fashions similar to what an actor/actress may have worn recently in a film... not period costumes or anything like that necessarily, so it wouldn't require special orders.

I like the idea. I would like the job of being the person who watches movies and then checks online stores to match the fashions. Pick me! :)

Hi

There is a start up in silicon valley doing this now. It is in Beta. My friend Suzanne works for them. I cannot say the name because it is stealthy but they were funded in part by google.

You can extend this to movie merchandise, costumes (sci-fi, fantasy), etc.

well as much as personally hate fashion and celeb culture, I know these things are huge and profitable - I think this has the potential to bring in big bucks...
