The Idea

The real estate market in the U.S. is undergoing a change. With the great market that appears to be coming to an end, many people have gotten into the business, but there will be a necessary thinning as the market cools. Many new agents who are very good and have provided great service to the few clients they've worked with will be forced out because they can't compete with some of the schysters who have been in the business for 20 years, have established client bases, and can ride out the down turn. The agent and broker sites aren't going to be much help to new buyers/sellers when deciding which agent to work with. Right now, personal recommendations and word of mouth are the only sources of information these people have to rely on. Research shows that 80% of buyers research homes on the Internet - but there are no such tools to find the right agents. Truly, this would be an intermediate step until services such as Trulia.com and redfin.com become more established.

I thought of this idea when I was...

We took a job to create a website for a local real estate agent and started doing research into some of the other services available in the space. This particular agent turned out to be real slime.

I don't know if this site I came across is exactly the sort of thing that you are suggesting, but it did seem fairly similar to me. Here is the similar site for reference purposes: http://www.homethinking.com/

I think rating real estate agents is a good idea.

Not exactly what I was thinking. But in a search of the space, homethinking.com is really the only competitor that was found.

I believe that the project can be done cleaner, with much more of a community aspect, rather than as a showcase for the real estate agents themselves.

Hmm, I wonder what this has gone up against that it's got 2 negative hits since the Aug 2, relaunch?
