The next frontier is to tap the quiet genius that exists outside organizations to attract innovations from people who are prepared to work with a company, even if they don't work for it.New York Times, Mar 2006
Cambrian House began as a crowdsourcing community using a wisdom of crowds based approach to discover new business and technology ideas. These pages are being kept online as a technology demo to showcase Chaordix™.

Kind of like an online music Idol. Bands compete to be published by Cambrian House, and the community along with CambrianHouse decides who gets contracts. It would support all popular genres of music, giving not just potential pop stars the opportunity to be published, but also potential rock stars, rap stars, R&B stars, country stars, etc. the chance as well. This site would be a lot of fun for people voting on the bands, being able to vote in artists they like and would be a great opportunity for the bands. You see how much people love [Your Country] Idol? Because it would span all genres, I think it has the potential for a ton of popularity. Potential Problems: It would truly need to reflect the opinions of a large crowd of userswho like that genre of music. For example, the community being full of programmers would be a terrible indicator of the music's popularity, so advertising is crucial. Publishers might try to steal artists from Cambrian with bigger offers.
I want a way to influence the influx of new bands coming out. Shows like American Idol also don't appeal to me because I don't like television-friendly Pop. It would also be nice if the community could buy shares in bands kind of like how Film Funder works, like maybe if people buy shares through CambrianHouse, so they have a contract with CH instead of directly with the bands and CH uses the money to put them in shows and get them published, etc.
With literally thousands of "bands" who think they are the next big thing, but in reality suck, no matter what genre they are trying to fit into, who would the poor unfortunate be who would have to suffer through all the demos? It is impossible for the crowd to decide on EVERY single submission, if you have ever watch Idol you will remember the scary try outs (which are drastically edited for length!)
I think that crappy bands would get filtered out pretty quickly if they use the correct algorithms. Good bands usually have done quite a few shows and will get lots of people who didn't know about the site to get on the site and vote them up the ranks. This brings new people and the more people it has, the faster the leaderboard gets cleared of crap.
It probably shouldn't have a head-to-head system, or only should have one if the entry gets enough votes (like digg). Popular bands (in their cities) will be the only ones who get to compete.
I don't see too much of a problem having crowds filter through bands. It'd actually be fun to finally be able to down vote bands that suck.
