For anyone who cares about how they look, who freezes with anxiety when the fashion police are out, the ruWearingThat.com web site is a source for learning what works and what just hurts that gives you feedback before you buy, and before you lay your rep on the line. Unlike the hords of fashion advice web sites out there our product lets you test your own ideas, whether from your closet or from your favorite on-line store. Upload your picture and you can even find out whether the outfit works FOR YOU. You're going to look marvelous....
Fashion for men and other color blind people...
Use "The Crowd" to determine what works and what doesn't in the clothing department. As a recently divorced man, I have discovered that I don't know how to dress myself. So...
* Users browse on-line stores and put together an outfit for critique by the community.
* Community votes on outfit with statistical feedback broken down by demographic. E.g., "Suburban office workers" think this would be a great outfit for: work-90%, parties-42%, singles club-61%, school-6%; "highschool hipsters" think this would be a great outfit for: work-12%, parties-2%, singles clubs-2%, school-1%; etc.
* Could select generic colors and garment types, such as "Zebra-striped denim mini-skirt" + "Orange leather jacket" + "Bright Yellow plastic platform shoes" (I have actually seen someone wearing this!)
* Users could also upload images of their own clothes and play a mix and match type game.
* Any of the above features could have basic and p
Stress of shopping for clothes last Christmas
Stress of what to wear when company went to "Business casual"
Stress of what to wear to a singles bar after 10 years of marriage
Stress of what to wear to get out of the "career ladder suburbanite" mold and into the "I did it my way" crowd--please ignore the hypocrisy!
Stress of shopping for shoes last week
Stress of shopping for new slacks (just lost 30 lbs!) yesterday.
good idea for us style challenged men
how dose it make money?
a freebie for you fashion-challenged men out there:
if you have ever wore your navy blue slacks with a black shirt - stop and look in the mirror. YOU LOOK LIKE A BRUISE!
Navy blue black and navy blue do NOT match
you could make money from sponsors/ advertising for clothing companies
so kind of a "queer eye for the divorced guy?"
I think it would work better if the market were broadened to include women. Different ads could be targeted towards men (single, divorced, whatever) and to women and fashion savvy men.
I'd love to play around on this website, especially if it included links to retailers I could buy the items from.
The site wasn't meant to only be for men. It would be targeted at anyone with hang-ups and obsessions about how they look. In fact, that target audience may turn out to have more women. But, as men generally don't have a clue re fashion and women (think they) do, it could be the men that dominate. If the gender of the audience turns out to be a problem, then we could always have a sister site. My pref is to get men giving feedback to women and vice versa.
As for money, this is really a slam dunk. Ads, of course, could get it started. Services would be mostly free to users, but there could be some specialties sold either as a membership level or as a pay-as-you-go. The real money though, would be through (1) finder's fees for fashion professionals who find work through our site, and (2) commissions on items sold through our site (remember, users can build an outfit from another on-line store's inventory.
More thoughts? Keep the ideas coming. You guys are great!
What do you think about tracking participants' success rate. The metrics would have to studied a bit more, but something like your vote ultimately agreed with the winning side or the decision to buy something. That way, users could build a rep over time. A person getting feedback from the crowd might then want to weight the votes by rep scores as an option.
Another idea is to get HR folks from major corporations--those corps with dress codes--to participate in the voting system. Their numbers could be broken out or, if the a user works at a particular firm, he could give the company rep a "mega" vote. I would love to know what I was expected to wear on Business Casual days.
What do you think?
hows it going with this?
