Crowdsourcing represents the act of a company or institution taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call.

The Elevator Pitch

For Drivers and Advertisers who are looking to become partners for the purpose of ad-wrapping vehicles with advertising messages the World Car Wraps-Classifieds is a an online marketplace that brings them together to directly deal with each other. Unlike current industry available venues for this goal our product removes all obstacles between drivers and local businesses and allows the creation of partnership whereby the drivers is the Brand Ambassador for local businesses in exchange of payouts. Local Community supporting Local Economy..

The Idea

The idea is to create an online marketplace that brings together drivers and businesses for the purpose of ad-wrapping vehicles with advertising messages in exchange of a payout in the form of Free Gas, Free Services/Products and/or nominal cash for the driver. I have a working live site based on this idea at http://www.worldcarwraps.com to test the waters. The site has the potential (disabled now) to generate revenue through listing fees and banner fees. It has been already described as a potential "Craigslist of vehicle wraps". My next idea is to take this concept further by introducing a reliable process that make it attractive for business owners to come onboard and select their partners among listed drivers based on their demographics and geographic preferences. Such process can include facilitating the ad-wrap production on behalf of the business owners after his/her partner selection using other third party wrap specialist who have registered with the site.

I thought of this idea when I was...

when i saw how boring it is to get stuck in traffic and starring at blank vehicles. The idea of regular vehicles with ads came to my mind. I started researching and found out that there are only two types of venues who help regular drivers to have their car ad-wrapped.
1. The first ones i came across were bogus websites who were scamming people by promising them a Free Car. I, now, know they charge them a fee and give them outdated listings. DEAD END.
2. The second types of businesses were a bit more legitimate but they isolate the advertisers (i.e. business owners) from the drivers. How? they only collect massive list of drivers who are willing and put them in long waiting list (years) until they find an advertisers. In my opinion it is taking too long bcuz advertisers and drivers are not in a marketplace. Then i came with this idea to create such marketplace for both to deal with each other directly.

sounds good, especially for people who do a lot of city driving.

Because I was lacking space to describe my idea further, I like to continue detailing the idea (specially the last part of the "Idea") here.
Having a marketplace where three (3) entities (driver, advertiser and wrap technology specialist) interact to complete the process is the ultimate goal. In addition, the car ad-wrap marketplace (herein called the Marketplace) facilitates this process. The Marketplace is one site. Further the Marketplace comprises a plurality of facilitators (one facilitator per major city or town defined by square mileage). A new facilitator will submit an application to a board of directors voted for by current facilitators. A first preference for facilitators will be the people who help me build this idea into business. The facilitator will reap half of the rewards from deals originating from his/her area. The facilitator job will be to promote the idea to local businesses within his/her area, but may need to coordinate the production with the ad-wrapping specialist too (Note: I have already one company who wraps vehicles and ready to pay 5% of the vehicle wrap cost to the facilitator. A full vehicle wrap can cost more than $5000...you do the math). Coordinating small wraps like bumper sticker, window sticker, etc. on behalf of the advertiser will be a lost easier than a full vehicle wrap. But the full wrap pays more money because of the scale. I hope I explained enough the idea of "facilitator" which is the one item of the concept i didn't have space to describe in.
If you think this is a novice Idea, please vote for me and become my friend. All my friends will be facilitators, provided there are no too many from the same city...well...in that case...first come first served.
I am ready to answer any further question. I am also open to constructive feedback and additional comments.

The time is right for this idea.

With high gas prices, people will be more willing to go with printed messages on their cars.

You can offer several kinds of ads, not all of them have to be complete wraps. There could be smaller ads on each door, from different advertisers. Rotate the ads etc.

There is a LED lighting device that attaches to the license plate. You can program that device to display the sponsor's message.

Great idea... but you need to shorten it. If you can't describe it in a paragraph then I'm not going to have faith in it :)

Idée intéressante q'on peut innover.
Cette idée ne serait alors que le point de départ d'un plus grand business.

This is a great idea. How do you monetize it? Do you make the advertisers/owners pay a membership fee? Collect a percentage of each advertising transaction? Have advertising on the site?

3 Different ways to monetize.

1. Listing Fees by both drivers and advertisers (right now disabled. Until the concept reach a momentum, i have disabled all listing fees. Site is free at the moment)

2. Banner placements.

3. Partnership with vehicle wrapping companies. At the moment i have a company who agreed that if we refer business (i..e wrapping vehicles), the referring person (i..e facilitator) will get 5% of the wrap cost. Read my June 22 Post above for more details about this scenario.

how will you ensure that a wrapped vehicle will commit to and undertake a certain amount of travel? ie to say, what if a car gets wrapped and does not go anywhere....how wud you ensure the advertisers get what they pay for?

It's a good idea but I almost don't want to say that, because I think it would annoy me to see even MORE advertisements that I already don't want to be subjected to.

I too have mixed feelings about this idea....I think there is a potential opportunity here, but am not sure about seeing yet another bunch of ads out there cluttering my view...that aside, I do think the idea has merit. You may be a bit off on your monetization options. I'd ensure that the listings are all free for all concerned, (any one of the three groups you identified could post a profile for free,) but that you skimmed a cut when all three converge on a deal. The driver should of course get a %age as well, as he is 'defacing' his car, and the advertiser should pay the bulk of the funds to the wrapping firm, as they supply the material and work of putting the wrap ON the car. I'm not sure that you should set it up such that you just get a referral fee from the wrapping firm though...instead you might want to consider collecting the fee from the advertisers at your rates, (whatever those might be, they would include something for your overhead/profit and the drivers fee, and you then pay the wrapping firm out of that...if you drive enough business their way, you could negotiate volume discounts to increase your margins. and by you being the one to handle the money transactions you can justify your 'handling/facilitation' fees more easily.
