The Idea

Just a simple novelty site where by biometric algorithms can be used to scan your passport photo and compare it to other passport photos on a social networking site in order to identify your double. A few sites are providing a similar service but ideally this service coud be offered by Myspace due to the number of members. An interesting addition could be to find the your oppisite sex double. According to a University Of Liverpool study many couples do actually look similar...see a few examples here.

I thought of this idea when I was...

looking at a wedding photo and noticing that a friend of mine had a similar facial structure to his wife. I then came across a news report about an artist exhibiting a collection of photographs of unrelated doubles.

vanhees - another excellent find (myheritage). Thx. I've looked through the site and it confirms the technolofy is available. I notices the site is not actually offerering the services I suggested. May be worth contacting them to find out why.

Security concerns...

I can't imagine that user agreements/security policies/etc would allow you to search the WHOLE of a network; you'd probably be restricted to searching through people who have signed up. Not necessarily a major problem, but it does mean you'll have to reach a critical adoption mass before it becomes useful...
