For People who like and purchase the music of their choice but feel that the laws surrounding the whole music industry are too neanderthal the digthistrack.com idea is a online venue that combines User generated ratings, free content sharing, selling merchandise related to that artist all in one spot. Unlike non-organic music rankings our product is powered by the people and for the people.
-Crowd sourced music ranking- -this is how the supply chain works atm- 1- Artist comes up with his stuff 2- some radio jockey recognizes it 3- song becomes a hit 4- chart listing is thus determined by the volume of album/online sales --proposition-- - Free music sample available from site (streaming music) - Free downloads for new and upcoming artists (say 1 song from album) - User -diggs- artist/band on a given site to determine ranking. - The more diggs, the higher the ranking (duhh) - Only registered users can digg the tracks/tunes. - All users registered must have a valid credit card on file to curb fraudulent diggs. (avoid artifical bloat) - Incorporate this with myspace, facebook and other high volume websites.
I actually got this idea reading one of digiterata's ideas. (Digify my music) his proposal dealt with backing up cd's on a site that a user buys.
Brilliant idea, dont pay for the tracks pay for the right to express your opinion on the music you are listening to.
Keep it up
thanks Virgil.
Wonder if to some degree this idea could be integrated with Pandora.com stuff..
I love it (and not just because you plugged my idea ;)
Only thing I might suggest changing is the credit card requirement. A lot of young people who would otherwise be your highest potential customers, would be restricted from using this due to lack of credit card.
There are other ways to limit abuse though (ip tracking, captchas, etc.) so I don't see it as a huge problem.
To make it really stand out from the crowd it might make sense to target a specific genre of music to start. Focus wins when it comes to startups. Don't try and boil the ocean and all that. Any genre would work, perhaps we could use a crowdsourcing model to find out where the most interest is? I personally love old-school funk (but I'm old). I'm in Montreal at the moment and there is a huge community of young ambitious DJ's looking for an outlet to make their music heard. I just know they would love a solution like this. Voting up!
the key factor is ''Incorporate this with myspace, facebook and other high volume websites.'' very cool.
dawning :
Pandora, wow! excellent thinking. Pandora's algorith + user diggs. wyked combination.
digiterata:
- i like your no credit card suggestion.
- love the counter-suggestions, specially a) ways to get around abuse b) "Focus wins" --> you got me thinking here ;)
cynthia_dimaria:
thank you Mademoiselle
This also ties in with other ideas:

Hi,
I wasnt being ironic, i really think its a great idea :D
Sincerely yours
I agree with you and cynthia_dimaria hooking up with other big sites is the key to success... aggregating popularity from many high volume sites and demographics.
May be an idea is to make the voting demographics between the large sites very prominent so that you create a competitive type of feel almost to the users of those social websites.
Pandora is a nice thought but are they strong on new artist submissions?

Doymarn, did you mean like a "digg it" link on each one of those sites, that eventually adds up to "ranking" on digthistrack.com ?

To be honest, I do not know. The algorithm that Pandora uses links music together based on different specific. There is more to it then linking music together based on genre alone. It's slightly more complex than that.
But that is a good question you brought up. --> upcoming artist submission on Pandorra.
digthistrack.com could have a two tiered system.
-i- famous and reknowned artists section
-ii- upcoming contenders section
thank you for the feedback everyone!
suggestions and most importantly critique helps us in brainstorming more about our ideas.
myself and "Digiterata" are in the process of alamgamating the 4 or 5 ideas that we have floating around in CH. We hope to have something conclusive and "easy to understand" very soon.
stay tooned!
