Hello!

You've landed in the archive of the Cambrian House community. We've kept some pages here for posterity but the community is no longer active. Now we market the technology that made our early crowdsourcing a success.

Can we help you get to Cambrian House the company? – Come on over.

Are you seeking crowdsourcing technology? – Check out Chaordix by Cambrian House.

Cambrian House

I am looking for a lot of men who have an infinite capacity to not know what can't be done.
Henry Ford

Cambrian House began as a crowdsourcing community using a wisdom of crowds based approach to discover new business and technology ideas. These pages are being kept online as a technology demo to showcase Chaordix™.

The Idea

Its like BitTorrent, but with whole sites instead of individual files. . Sites are broken down into individual pages and distributed across multiple computers around the Internet to provide fault tolerance and fast response. Customers would also benefit from low trafic costs, because they would be utilising unused bandwidth on the members' Internet connection. . Members agree to host content for customers web sites. Customers pay for storage and traffic, and members recieve a share of the revenue based on the traffic they carry. Alternatively members would get free/discounted hosting of their own sites. . The server softare could be a customised package of Apache, PHP, etc with a fully automated installation program. Members would be able to switch the server on or off when they want to. When the server is up it registers the member machine as available for hosting. . A central server farm deals with DNS, load balancing and fallbackweb serving when no members can respond.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Thinking about P2P applications and how to incentivise people to take part.

Too long latency to be feasible; needs a central tracker anyway.

There are at least three other very similar suggestions in IdeaWarz. Maybe we could get them merged or reduced to one.
