The Idea

The rise of user generated content a.k.a. Web 2.0 is here and companies with big bucks and big brands are starting to ride the wave. With this comes a need to moderate this content. Big brands want all the benefits of UGC but dont want the riff-raff that comes with it. So this idea is a web based service which plugs in easily to any UGC based system and provides a number of controls to business users for how the content is moderated. You can configure the system to act in a variety of ways, be it pre-moderation (content is viewed by an admin and approved prior to being made public), post moderation (content is allowed through but admin is notified to review), reactive moderation (let other users "flag" inappropriate content) or distributed moderation (empowering the community itself to remove content ie wikipedia). The sytem could be implemented easily with a simple id tagging of elements within the UCG system, and installation would be as simple as inserting a piece of javascript code

I thought of this idea when I was...

My company is launching a new UGC "viral" video based website and is spending way too much money trying to find a solution to moderation (more headcount, investing in external server hardware, etc). If there was a service out there for this, we would have our first 50K in the bank already.

This is needed. Just look at your avatar for an example.

How is this different than a Blog with a moderator? I don't see it as being anything other than what is already available...can you give a better explanation on how it differs please?

There are lot's of small co's that used to specialize in data entry that are now dipping their toes into community/UGC moderation, due to the market demand.

Nice idea, but it's already being done.
