The Elevator Pitch

For those who are socially conscious the all is good website is a source that provides information. Unlike other specialized sites our product is comperhensive and complete.

The Idea

These days many people have jumped on the environmental bandwagon of being friendly to the environment, such as with
rating, e.g.
autos for greeness

or by saving resources such as water, and electricity by using
sun and windpower, organic products, or by reducing lanfills by using recyclables.

Why not take this further, and put a socially conscious rating on everything from restaurants, to TV shows, to employers, to companies, and gather them all in one place.

This site would take in expert ratings as well as allow for user discussions. The point to draw in many users and then link them to the
products with the highest ratings.

The Logo

Scroll Left Scroll Right

I thought of this idea when I was...

Thinking about all the wasted plastic bottles from bottled water containers, and the cost of shipping the water, rather than taking them from a tap...

This site would make money by promoting the virtues of products that rise to the top of the ratings.

Stardust,
I think if you could turnh this into a kind of quality lable that compagnies can earn by being very greenish, it might work.

This is a good idea. However, you will have to have good principle and values to stand by that people will follow.

:)

How is it going to make money? How does it differ from "Green" websites already available? Who determines the criteria for rating and values for rating the "greenness" of product? I think you have a good idea...but lots of questions to be answered before this can become viable.

Nice one but needs more clarity

in my mind this is a fantastic idea. largely because everyone feels it is their right to judge things - people, products, experiences etc.

most of the time those judgements are for negative purposes - gossip, self inflating, grudges and more. generally people want their perspective to be recognized in a way that would get them recognition. unfortunately that's why reality shows (Survivor, Fashion by Jury blah blah blah) are not only on the air, but quite popular from what i hear.

i see your idea as a way to welcome people's judgement within a specified platform/criteria.....

there are so many possibilities here. it would be a great project to participate in.

i'm not getting the logo though.

The logo is supposed to be some green vegetation, but it did not come out too well. Sorry, I am not much of an artist.

One of the problems with a scheme like this is that many of these rating schemes are still the subject of controversy. Even the leading experts in the technology fields involved cannot agree on just HOW green particular schemes are.

That said, if we are going to make a difference to global warming it's going to require effort from all of us. Whatever can be done to present consumers with information like this and encourage them to consider green issues when making a purchase has to be a good thing. Even simple things like the energy efficiency of household appliances would be a good start. Hopefully, manufacturers will eventually get the message that such things are starting to matter to consumers and will ramp up their efforts accordingly. Go for it!

So this is more of a green campaign?

Hmm maybe you could offer independent audits as a paid service to organisations, the attraction being that that would be a counter balance to any online critisism form user contributed ranking.

You would also need to offer a secure means to offer right of reply for brands. If you could establish the site as a point where dialoguie between a brand and its consumers over ethics you woudl have a good destination - still may be weak on earning potential.

I am standing on the sholders of giants with the above comments as I have learned a lot from the people behind sutori.com a client of mine. Sutori may spark of some ideas for you.

First off, i think global warming is a lie perpetrated by the government. They know people are against higher taxes, so they invented this theory to soften the stance for more of our money going to the gov...sorry, cant vote for this.

stardust
stardust Posted: August 11, 2007, 2:43 pm

Douglas,
that's another reason we would need to have a site
like this - to actually discuss the evidence in an open format. The only thing people hate more than higher taxes, is wanting to trust a government that just tells lies, and just wants to make more money off oil. There are certain pieces of evidence that are indisputable, but
what goes wrong is the extrapolation of these to something
else that is not logically connected.
I would like to see what evidence can be taken as fact, and
be able to say if I agree with it or not.

ccozad
ccozad Posted: August 11, 2007, 3:02 pm

Global Warming in perpetuated by the government!!!! what? the next thing you are going to say is that the "government" made up cancer just to take your health care dollars.

While the underlying causes of the phenomenon might be under debate (though there is VERY strong evidence pointing to green house emissions), you can't refute the fact that the average global temperature has risen in the last century.

Studies have also shown very real health consequences from sustained exposure to air pollution.

Companies should be rewarded for considering the "greater good" like supporting initiatives that are "socially responsible" and should be chastised for impeding the health and safety of the world and future generations.

ecahoon
ecahoon Posted: August 12, 2007, 2:14 pm

I think this is a great idea, but you can just go out and do it easily - there is very little barrier to entry. To quote one of the most un-environmentally sound corporations around - "Just Do It!"

BTW - Anthro-centric Global Warming is impossible to prove or disprove - if there is GW, then we need to deal with it - but realistically there is very little us Humans can do versus nature.

I would use this website to check on products - especially those made in China. How environmentally was a product made? I could see companies paying to have your inspector/expert come and do an inspection to then be posted on the site - possible way to make money.

i do agree that it's a bit under-developed, particularly in the revenue potential area, but I guess that's what CH is for. also, i think just another inert depository of 'green' info & ratings, however valuable that may be to those who can find the time & wherewithal to sift thru it, is probably destined to gather dust. the trick i think, would be making it engaging & having 'hooks' that encourage its active use.

i just posted a similar idea - thanks to ccozad for pointing it out, here it is:

The simpliest way to make revenue is ads. You'd want companies that sell "Green Products" to advertise and/or pay you to have "Featured" products. My biggest concern is data. Who is going to enter all the data and keep it up-to-date? You'd need a large staff to maintain the data.
