The Idea

Just a site explaining cool tricks. Think football tricks, pen tricks, card tricks, skateboard tricks, etc. The key is that it has to be useless other than that it's cool to be able to do it. The site should never become too serious. The tutorials will explain in steps how to do them and people can send in movies of them doing the tricks and they can send in new tricks. So if I know a cool football trick and I master it, I can show it to the world. I can try to collect as many tricks as possible. People can review my tricks. Giving me trick-status. The 'trick' would be make the site in a way that would give the people a really easy way to make the tutorials themselves, so we as makers of the site don't have to make all the tutorials ourselves. We just set up the rules. I think it would work because people who do tricks always want to show them off, so there should be enough content providers. And there are many people who want to learn tricks. If it's a success > add a tv-show :)

I thought of this idea when I was...

So I'm the type of person that wants to be able to do all these tricks :).

How is it most submissions miss the main point of, "How does it make money". It seems like a cool website one could do for fun, but its commercial aspects seem dubious.

You could write this app in about a week using Ruby on Rails - go do! You'll make a few dollars with Google ads. Enjoy :-)

Agreed, I didn't have my money thinking cap on. Maybe you can see a way to make money out of this?

To Aidan ("You could write this app in about a week");
Perhaps you can, but I can't :). If you build it, I only want 10% of the Google ads income for thinking of the idea :D

www.bookofcool.com

It's not a website, but it's been done already as a Book/DVD.
