It's free! Like love in the sixties!
Nowadays people use their computers for everything, sites like orkut, myspace, can log you into a community of people that you know or have something in common, but in my opinion meeting people just by the screen of a computer is kind of sad, you have to be at home to meet new people. So I thought, why cant mobile phones do that job? my idea is simple, you create an account into a website or even into your phone with your information and preferences. while walking on the streets your cell phone will indicate to you people with similar interests that you have. you could meet a lot of people at opens spaces! I would make money by selling this idea to mobile phone operators.
i thought of this idea just now while I was looking through cambrian house website by the 4th time.
The idea is not novel, and so the objections are not new:
How do you avoid to not run into people you better not want to run into?
Tommy
This sounds like a must have, for every pervert Lol.
I agree with the other somment.
But maybe their a system to solve this problem...
sorry... you need to reifned this first or evolve in another form =)
eeek....I'm all for social networking but this is a little too much...how would you separate the freaks from the...freakier...
a lot scary to me man!
Would this be open to adults only? Some people like meeting strangers - I think their i a crowd out there who would go for it.
They've already tried this using bluetooth and cellphones/PDAs in Europe. They were "friend finders," though I'm not sure if it's still around or if it was successful.
Seems like you'd need a good user base for it to be really effective (i.e. profitable).
Been thought of and attempted, but never successfully. What makes you think you can do it successfully?
One of the cool ways I have found to meet people with like interests is to do things I like and just talk to people who are there with me....
as a side note I've always thought that myspace et al was better for braging about ones social life than acutally getting one.
I think this could work. People are way to mobile, and alot of the time don't have the time to sit and search the web as much. Just like facebook, you can block people you don't want to have in your list, or such things.
What about taking it to a new level, for business people, you could setup certain 'business' cards that are used in the phone, and when walking by you can talk to them.
Or also just try and add a section called, "I need..." and then you could add: A Marketing Person, Graphic Designer, Sales Man"
And then based on other profiles that fit, when your walking around downtown, or mall's or whichever, you know who's around you. Approach them. etc.
Or even bust it out to "Looking For..." : Female, 5'9", brown hair... etc... then your phone could buzz, and each person that is COMPATIBLE would know that there is someone in this room with the same 'interests'...
:D
But I suggest not selling it, it wouldn't make it go way to bloated, use them ad mediums, but don't sell it.
gehrke, I've automatically resubmitted this idea into the 2007-11-28 round of IdeaWarz, which will focus on mobile applications. I believe that this would not have been possible as a non-carrier-backed-app. But it may be possible on the gPhone/Android platform.
Having your phone constantly broadcast your location and interests to facilitate serendipitous encounters. I see this as possible, although if ANDROID allows this capability, what you're proposing is probably the baseline activity for quite a few applications which will center around perpetual status broadcasting.
Anticipate that 5 companies are racing ahead to make this very application. How can THIS version be better?
It will be better because it will be crowd sourced. And crowd sourcing is better. Right?
LarsBell, I meant Feelrz and a host of other ideas are converging around the meet-strangers-who-also-like-XYZ idea space. Its safe to assume a number of apps like that will appear, so what would be the next move then? What features will make some meet-people apps succeed and others fail?
Maybe it is safer to meet behind a keyboard rather than on the street. Technology is good for somethings, bad for others. If you meet on myspace or wherever, then you can decide to gather in person locally.
Got something to say?
