If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves.

The Idea

A professionally created standalone program for organizing all your daily surfing. An automatic bookmark that relies on many depths of visualisation . Some features: . password protected Themes - not just folders (i lead different lives, you?) . Bookmark with local storing, keeping versions' history, autoupdate, web events alarm, importing people's themes . Cool trick: Search by themes made through community thus improving your search results: if a movie freak, searching for Hair will not offer u a spray brand . Tagging by custom/popular categories - with importing tags made by others . Sharing knowledge (an OpenGL interpretation of a dynamically flagged communal interest.. little trolls roaming around carrying signs with search results?) . Cool staff as dumping permalinks into your local memory and then let BrainCap worry on updates on content and reports on interconnectivity (technorati in the background) . Tree of knowledge: record all your surfs, populate themes and categories tre

I thought of this idea when I was...

...thinking about a possible next-gen browsers and how to get to take them of off a flat 2-D surface. However, opening pages for more than just copy-pasting should be done in your browser. On your second monitor :) . To explain the structure, in a more..well structured way: . vertical: community->bookmark->themes->folders (categories)->pages horizontal: tags, search results . Reclassification is instantenuous inside a theme when a new theme design is provided. . . . I'm giving out Royalty points from this idea to people that suggest cool features. Each idea for distinct and unambigious feature/solution can earn minimum 3 RPs if accepted by the community and myself. Minumum 30 such points will be given out, and maximum 75, depending on the number of potential RPs that CH is awarding for the complete idea. The suggestions for features need to be inside the comments for this idea.

Sounds cool, if a bit open-ended. But it sounds like something that I could use. My surf habits are quite lame, I often lack imagination (always going to same sites) and am amazed at what other people dig up. Maybe I lack the time to surf, but something that allowed me to focus my available time would be excellent. Might this be it?

Sounds like a monstrous undertaking. Look how long Mozilla 1.0 took. OK, so they made a massive design switch half-way through. But still - long time.

http://www.flock.com is one attempt at a next-gen browser.

I've downvoted this idea for a couple of reasons.

1) I think the scope is too big
2) I think the scope isn't well defined - seems like you're saying "Let's build a next generation browser"
3) I think for most people, browsers are either a religious subject, or else you use IE.

I think you could submit several ideas to CH that are the features you mentioned above, but as individual toolbars or plug-ins for existing browsers.

Aidan,-

Agreed, the scope is too big. i got carried away and added the whole next-gen browser thing, which wasn't my original intention. I'll change it back into the original wish to have a perfect bookmark (thus the name of the project inspired by Clarke's 3001 Final Oddyssey) , do visit again and comment early and often :)
