If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves.

The Idea

Ever wanted to know if something was worth your time? This site will rate and review everything imaginable, and from the rating you can see if it is worth your time or not. For example movies, you can see if the hot summer movies are really worth your time ~ and money.

I thought of this idea when I was...

That's so subjective though....

Amazon has user reviews already, but sometimes there's such a wide variety of opinion on one particular book, movie, or cd, that the reviews cease to be really useful.

Besides that, I don't see how this is really profitable. Advertisers aren't going to want their product negatively reviewed.

RateItAll.com does this.

Other sites do this for free with more features, and it has been done before.

With all of the different forums out there and blogs on every subject imaginable there it would be hard not to find someone's opinion on any and every subject/product.
People also have different tastes when it comes to movies and other such consumer products so something that is worth your time, may not be worth other people's time etc

how does this makes money considering it will be just sort of recycled generic site?

I think you need to focus on specific subjects.

A better idea would be to build a bazaar-like website where users can buy each other's time in exchange for other time. Like: I'll code a PHP script for you in two hours time if you build me a nice logo in two hours time. Something like that, you catch my drift.

the idea is rather vague ... rating everything??

This will be a great resource... once it really does have a review for EVERYTHING. Until then, you might have a very hard time persuading people to visit the site and contribute reviews. Starting with a limited remit is not ideal in terms of the idea, but might allow the site to reach 'usefulness' sooner.
