Crowdsourcing represents the act of a company or institution taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call.

The Idea

The idea of a Paperless society is a myth. Visionaries have been talking about a paperless society since the early 70's... and we aren't there yet.

In the Financial industry (especially mutual fund/banks/insurance), paper based transactions are a huge burden. My idea... remove this burden by using the latest in Computer Vision software (http://www.numenta.com/about-numenta.php) and top of the line scanners to read paper forms, pull out transactional data and provide a file back to the mutual fund/insurance/bank companies that they simply load into their back-office system.

Clients could either send us the paper doc to scan or the client could scan the documents and upload the images to our central image repository.

With companies like Numenta offering ground-breaking computer vision software this type of business is now feasible.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I worked at several Mutual Fund companies/banks/insurance companies and I know how big a problem this is.

In Canada alone there are approx 1000 Mutual fund brokers and 90% of them still use paper forms to some extent. How many Insurance brokers are there? (some would say... 'too many' lol!).

This idea could be expanded to include any type of document for any type of business. The possibilities are endless.
