It's free! Like love in the sixties!
Many people keep an email address that they use solely for signing up to websites, forums etc. They do so to avoid the possibility of getting spammed in their regular address. The idea is to use a similar approach when giving out your phone number. You"re entering a contest, or you"ve met someone in a bar - and you don"t want to give out your precious mobile number. So instead, you give them your Spam Number, which is just a regular phone number, which forwards calls to your mobile. The web site could allow the subscriber to change their spam number, or add additional spam numbers. Tired of getting calls from that creep in the bar, but don"t want to miss a call from DreamBoat? We could even get fancy and disallow Creepy"s caller id.
Watching some show about a stalker on TV just now...
When the New York Times writes an article in the fashion and lifestyle section on your idea, listing no less than four companies implementing flavours of it, then it's probably too late. Then again I might have missed something in your description that makes this different.
You're right - same thing .. it's been done
I got one from NetZero. AOL also has this "phone line." They are both free. You can emailed when there is a voicemail with an mp3 of the message. I love it. It's great for handing out if you're dating etc.
