The Elevator Pitch

For Advertisers, marketers and/or media buyers or investors who are looking for economical ways to reach internet and mobile users in the emerging field of original, quality,on-demand programming the programs in our development catalogue as well as TheJury.TV is a quality, produced programs that can be underwritten completely by an advertiser for 26 epsiodes (one year) of solid branding. Unlike major studios, our production costs are 10-15% of their cost and include aggressive online and television promotion, bringing large numbers to watch sponsored programs throughout the year our product is high quality, low cost and effective way to reach any targeted demographic on the internet or mobile on demand.

The Idea

What do you get when you cross the drama of Law and Order with the viewer participation feature of American Idol?

TheJury.TV

It's a new internet legal crime drama which allows its viewers to determine the outcome of the cases.

We've produced THREE episodes and will premier the series on the internet in March. For now you can watch the series trailer at www.thejury.tv.

This series is our company's entry point into a larger trend that I call independent television. DVRs, mobile phones and the internet are changing forever the way people receive and enjoy their programming. A sharp demand for more content, delivered in a variety of ways must be met in much the same way that there is now programming on over 100+ cable networks when 25 years ago there was only ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS. The infrastructure is changing and our company is preparing to meet this demand, which we expect to see peek in 2-4 years.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Two words: Independent television. Although this show idea is very specific, we all know that content consumption is expanding beyond the boundaries of television to include mobile phones, pdas, wireless devices, etc. As occurred in music with napster and in television when cable expanded viewing opportunities, the internet and mobile phones are expanding viewing opportunities. More programming must be created to meet the demand. However, with network productions running 3-7 million an episode, advertisers (who support this programming) cannot be expected to support such a severe increase for the need for content, especially at those prices. Our studio will meet (some of) the growing demand for quality content and license it to whomever needs content. Look for ISPs to need this as well as advertisers seeking ways to reach a growing online and mobile audience.

Do you need crowdsourcing or are you spamming us?

Reminds me of the ill-fated FOX network show of the same name (I think it was canceled after three episodes - I have the baseball cap)

Neat idea, but what's stopping clients from going out, finding their own production teams and propping up their own hosting site or using some other means of getting their content out (youtube, daily motion, veoh, etc) ?

Indeed, where is the crowdsourcing pitch? It seems this is attempt at a marketing pitch for something already developed and up-and-running...

http://www.current.com/tv is kind of on this track of low-cost, high-quality content created by users and aired on national cable/streaming to internet users/accessible by phone. Check them out.

If you've already done it; why do you need the help of CH?

Cool idea. I think http://www.mariposahd.tv/ is doing something like this too (in hd!) but definately a different sort of target market.

it does sound like it is meant to be a studio - so there could be multiple shows potentially, all aimed at different markets

OK, so you did it all ready. What do you want?

Yes its done but I am writing because I thought this board was for people giving feedback and ideas. NO I'm definitely not spamming :). As you can see I have been quite active on the boards and i think this place is very cool. Also I thought this place was about people with similar interests trying to find other people who want to participate in some capacity with others on some sort of business or project.

I hope no one here takes offense and understands that I am truly seeking feedback and 'working partners'. Thats why the title is INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION STUDIO and not the show itself.

I wanted to connect with other people who might be in the same or related industry who want to work together in the independent television or production studio business (as an investment of time or funds). We're not a start up company but this division is.

I'll try to answer some of the questions:

(why cant they go find their own production teams)

They could but they are not in the business of production.

It takes serious work to do professional production. Its not just something you can pop up on you tube. It requires a great deal of planning and organization. For the first three episodes we had over 28 cast people and it took almost one year of planning. Locations, wardrobe, rehearsals with actors,....you'd be amazed at the amount of work that it takes to do this.

Which is why we are hoping to be one of the studios that advertisers HIRE to do this , since they are not in the business of production. There will be an excessive need for produced content (of all genres) as TV and internet converge and mobile entertainment becomes more widespread in the US (we're way behind Europe and Asia on this).

The major studios can't handle it all. Someone has to. That's where we're trying to come in. We want to produce lots of content and build a strong catalogue of content. So that we can be ready when that critical 'moment' comes. We're looking for others who are interested in working with us to do it. The program we have now is simply the first program. We have a comedy and a cooking show we'd like to produce this year as well.

Thanks everyone for your feedback so far.

PS. Yes the ill-fated FOX series THEJURY was about the lives and times of the jurors and peeked into their deliberation process. I never watched it (but researched it) and our program is completely different. Our jurors are the community. The scripted part is the case itself. The jurors interact about the case in the forum/chat. Then they decide if they think the person being tried is guilty or not. We air whatever ending the people decide (we shot two endings for each episode).

THANKS AGAIN!

Might work

I suggest it was Mrs. White, in the Library, with the Candle Stick.

"Locations, wardrobe, rehearsals with actors,....you'd be amazed at the amount of work that it takes to do this."
I think it might help cutting down on all of that. It would help if this was kept simple. The seriousness of the court case needs to be cut down. To me it seems choppy like it is trying to hard to be real.

Maddie,

I assume you are familiar with them but just in case, you might check out Brightcove.com.
