For the dual computer user who needs to get information from one place to another the remote clipboard is a nice thing that gets information from one place to another. Unlike online storage and e-mail our product is fast and easy..
I would like to create a Remote Clipboard that's basically your typical computer based clipboard used for copy and paste functionality but in this case it would be shared. This would enable you to work on two computers side by side and copy and paste from one to the other. Alternatively, this could be a collaborative function between two users at a distance. In a web based scenario, you would log in to your account from both locations and copy and paste between computers. In a hardware scenario and if you were very ambitious and fancy-like, you might have a small bluetooth enabled tablet of some sort that manages your data on an LCD screen (although that might be very pricy and nobody would really buy it).
Working on two different workstations and needing small amounts of data from one or the other. Yarg!
Would google notebook work for this?
Yes, I have two notebooks and use Google Docs or Google notebook to share snippets. Sometimes, my wife uses the other notebook to create test data in Google spreadsheet and all I have to do is refresh my browser and export the latest test data
Are you talking about a solution that would syncronize data between two machines that may or may not be on at any given moment? Or are you talking sharing information between computers while they are running on the same network?
For us Mac users there is Teleport: http://www.abyssoft....m/software/teleport/
It's hot, you can see your mouse move over to other computers in your office!

I use online storage and don't think it's slow at all, google notebook would do.
Your idea is nice but I'm sure if we need it.
Yes, I use 2 computers side-by-side on different LANs. I use Google gmail draft documents to relay text back and forth. But for non-text (and non file attachments) it doesn't work.
I would like to use something like this... I'd kind of prefer to have it bundled with a more useful app like Google Toolbar so lots of other stuff can get leveraged too. I don't use Google Toolbar but I would if it did this too. But short of that I might install any service which would do this.
It would really have to mirror as conveniently as the clipboard itself though.
If y'all have tried any of these prior arts please let me know if they're good. (And work on Windows.) If the prior-art isn't any good... well I think this would certainly be valuable.
For you GordonMcDowell: Try http://www.jungledisk.com by Amazon, backup solution, remote drive, inexpensive.
I use it for backup mainly and sometimes to copy files for access at work.
Has Google invented everything? Are we done? Have we got to the end of the Internet? Can I leave, now?
This is sort of a minor part of the entire cross computer/computing device syncronization issue. It's a pretty big nut to crack, and this may be a spot to start... heavens knows Plaxo still hasn't been able to really syncronize contacts across devices and social networks...

I don't want any fancy social networking, file sharing junk. All I want to do is copy and paste a web link, or a graphic, or a little bit of text. Including this function in a toolbar or something would be sweet. I had a look at http://www.controlc.com/, I guess it's kind of along the same lines. I just want to keep things simple.
thestarwheel: Sadly, this is not a simple problem, largely because of differences between OSes, computer hardware, and even browsers. this controlc thing looks pretty cool, and close to what you are proposing. In light of that, how is your concept different, and what woe does it solve better/easier/differnently?
Why not use the Remote Desktop Protocol?
Remote Desktop Connection RDP on Windows has it all even audio and boat loads of other features.
I like to use vmware and just hop the connection.
http://www.vmware.com
Other remote desktop tools:
Citrix XenApp
Symantec PCAnywhere
Sun Secure Global Desktop
GoToMyPC
FreeNX
etc...
I'd say http://www.logmein.com fulfills most of what you want too.
As mentioned before teleport for mac will do exactly this. You can copy and paste from one computer to another and share the same keyboard/mouse.
Also Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) does the same thing but can work across different platforms (linux, windows, mac). Gord you should check this one out.
Teleport is awesome if you run mac software. I use to use it every day with my old setup and recommend it completely. sometimes it would crash when I tried to copy a largish file from one computer to the other but I hear it has improved on stability. Super fast for copying say 20 lines of text from word running on a laptop into LiveType on your desktop machine.
Got something to say?
