The Idea

There are 300,000,000 people in America, for 1 penny "annually" they could provide 3 Million dollars to a single person or company every year. For 1 penny a week "52 cents a year" they could provide 156 Million to a single person or company. this idea could do wonders for certain charities. i know what your thinking "this is like taxes", but it's not because taxes are set mandatory fees on life, this idea is more so a very affordable contribution technique with a minimum amount of 1-52 cents a year. Don't tell me you can't afford that.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Trying to think of ideas for more glory points, lol.

It's not that anyone can't afford a penny a year; it's that they may not want to support whatever you're funding. Economically, it's only a penny, which is nothing. Philosophically, why would I give that penny to some company? I already give much more than that to various charities, but I choose which ones. If I disagree with the single person or company you choose, I'll save my penny.

Also, collecting 52 cents from people could quite conceivably cost more than 52 cents. Transaction fees, organization fees, legal fees .. you're going to need to account for a lot of overhead.

I share the idea of Laura. The cost of management and fundraising, would exceed the total collection

Hi,

This is not exactly a new idea. In Europe Religious /Charitable Orders have been placing "Poor Boxes" in Shops, Bars, Schools etc in order to collect Pennies for Charity. This works well when the administration is done on a voluntary basis.

However as "Laura" correctly states, administration costs can be very heavy if it is managed by a commercial group. For instance there was a large scandal in the USA about 30 years ago. A religious Order turned the administration of their "Collections" over to a professional group. The group kept 95% of the funds collected for Administration and Salaries.

Meanwhile the cost for collecting this one penny worth of tax and it is a tax. Is costing you money.

This is not feasible in its present form. Reason? Micco was spot on.
