Thought of the idea tonight! Basically a website where kids and adults can log on. You type in your birthday and see who else has the same b- day as you. Who else is turning 10 years old in brooklyn or in los angeles january 10th. Once you find that out you can choose if you want to send them a gift or a card or whatever. All they have online is a a site where you can see which celebrities have the same birthday. once you Find the person who has the same bday you can email them send a gift or just say happy bday. oh ya and you can make money on the gifts , cards, and advertsing on the site.Your thoughts?
spacin out thinking of an idea to do with kids!
Albeit many forums and community sites display each day a list of the 'birthdayed' accounts handles this may be fun for kids.
I could not find any existing dedicated competitor. Searching for "birthday date" raises potential complements (b-day database from gov data, what does the date mean, famous people b-days...)
This could become another type of social networking site. If you worked together with some of the e-card sites or even the Hallmarks of the world, you could get decent hits.
You could have things like guessing games - "Who has the same birthday as me?" and then display a list of names (famous and regular people), if they guess them all right they get a prize or discount coupon or?? - might be fun for the kids.
im in lets do it. Im an idea guy . got loads of them just never did anything with them
PeeJayEl idea seems cool!
Can we agree upon the fact that this is a kid's site?
May it also target the OLPC kidcrowd (or complete the existing services, does somebody explored them?)?
Each kid will have an account, he will be able to set a way to communicate with him. But the catch is that pedophiles will come. How can we manage a way for the kids to chat with each other (I don't think that many will want to send anything to a total stranger) while banning the bad guys?
good point. How do we get around that. Well we dont have to enable chat all you can do is send a card or a gift and maybe see a picture of the other person and their interests. something like that
i dont think we make a chat available to the kids or adults .You just send e cards to other people who the same b day as you. When akids signs up they posts their interests and a little bit about themselves. Another kid logsd on types in her birthday and sees somneone else who has the same one. She can then send a E card to that person .Also even if we have gifts they should be cheap and small. Noone is spending 20 dollars on someone they dont know.
By reducing all interacting to "sending a gift" I'm not sure that a community (or a group of 'couples/duos/friends pair') will grow
open to ideas
Something like http://www.famousbirthdays.com/ + friends ?
Tommy
something like that i guess + friends
I'm really concerned that this could be a major way to cause identity theft. DOB is one of the major ways of identifying yourself for credit cards and loans. Plus, I'm not really sure that you want to meet people by common birthday. The best social networking sites (Like myspace and facebook) let you find people you already know in real life easily as well as making new friends. Common birthdays don't really signify that you will have anything in common (other than your sign)
i hear ya
I think natmaka and KateG are right - privacy is a major issue here. Some of that can be got around by never revealing private information or contact details through the site. Having access to the email address, postal address and personal details of a person is quite different to being able to send a content-filtered internal message to 'Tom' in London. Gifts would have to be similarly regulated - perhaps I can choose from a range of small (and inexpensive!) gifts that are automatically dispatched through the site?
Alternatively, there's always the ubiquitous facebook app... Facebook already allows you to search on birthdays and to send messages to anyone on the site so in a sense it's nothing new, but perhaps you could draw it all together and have it suggest people who share your birthday (or whose birthday it is today) from all over the site instead of just within your friends. This has the advantage that the messaging and privacy etc is all taken care of by facebook.
Hi all, this is a great idea, I have always had it in mind... last two years or so!
My thoughts are as follows: How about letting people with common birthdays eg in a particular town to meet up for a birthday party. The idea is to have parties for those who share common birthdays and then getting sponsors for these events. (How about targetting food and drink manufacturers, apparel designers etc)
So ideally, these events could be free of charge for the birthday boys and girls while there would be a cover charge for their guests. For logistics these events would be held on Saturdays and then a grand monthly event would be held and there would be prizes for both the birthday boys and gals as well as the guests.
How about large corporate organizations where people share birthdays but have no clue? It would be a great way of sharing these days and lifting the corporate spirit!
I have a number of domain names in mind.
Regarding privacy, there are always technical ways of ensuring that the other personal info is kept confidential
Clown29, this is definitely taking online social networking to a different level... the REAL world.
Count me in.
good solution philliph
Sounds like fun. Let me know if you need any non-techie help.

nice niche ... could work....
"from all over the site instead of just within your friends." It is possible to do all ready on face book. Except, users have to enable it. Privacy concerns.
