The Elevator Pitch

For walkers and joggers who walk and jog regularly the byfoot site is a online community that allows them to share favorite tracks, organize people for communal walks and races and log their activity. Unlike generic community sites our product is geared specifically towards walking and jogging.

The Idea

A site for sharing your favorite urban/nature walking/jogging routes, along with your favorite spots along the way (cafe, bench, etc.).
Organized by location/city/neighborhood.
Share walking stories, pictures, music you listen to while walking there, etc.
Vote for routes.
Log your walks.
Schedule walks with site members.
Map view (mashed with Google map).
Great search capabilities (if you're traveling somewhere and want a recommendation for a walk).
Promote businesses along the route (possible income).
Access the route from your mobile, or have it sent as SMS or MMS.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Walking in my city (Tel Aviv) in my favorite boulevard...

I know a ton of runners who would like a site like this. Runners are competitive, so I think it would be important for you to allow them to compare themselves to others on similar routes. Maybe you could even include "virtural marathons" to increase traffic.

Cool idea.

Good Luck.

Advertising is the key business model here. Since the site is location sensitive you can provide very specific ads for businesses along the route. Another options is to provide ads in topics which are relevant to the people's interests (sporting goods, MP3 players, dog food for those walking the dogs, etc.). This will generate more clicks than a plain vanilla, non focused site with ads.
The location based ads model is something new which should be explored. Maybe it's a new idea. Need to think about it.
