I am looking for a lot of men who have an infinite capacity to not know what can't be done.

The Idea

I would love an application to keep the kids on task when doing their homework on the computer, without me having to nag and watch them every second. It could have an interface for the parent to enter the programs (eg word, powerpoint) allowed during the session, and also keywords allowed for internet sites and searches (related to subject of homework). After a reasonable period of time, customisable for different ages, a favourite game or site is allowed for a short period of time or certian amount of games. It could also be set to occur after a certain amount of words are to prevent daydreaming. It could even have help features built in such as "How do I write an essay?" , links to educational sites and
tips on studying and organising time for homework. It could even have a chat section allowable for group projects, although it would need to be intelligent enough to understand if the conversation was indeed about homework or it could be used as the reward instead of the game/site.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Helping my son with his homework, and everytime I got up to do something, he would be playing a game or on an unrelated site. If I sat there and watched him, he would just daydream and get nothing done.

Fortunes have been made from ideas no less simple.
I hope that you get the backing required from Cambrian House Members to make this idea into a product.

Yeh that's simple but effective, good luck with that one. I can imagine lots of parents buying a copy of that software

I think this would tie in really well with IanMSD's idea:

He's basically looking for control over himself in the same way you're looking for control over your children. One app could serve both needs, and I think there would be a great market for both a "home" and "enterprise" version.

I like this idea. You could also introduce it to schools whom I know would be interested in this type of stuff. I know some software that locks down computers but, doesnt do much more than that. It would be nice if you could add some remote control abilities so that even if the admin or parent were away, they could observe and help the child.

cool idea. keep it coming.

yup ... there should be some kind of system so that before you insert an idea you should be able to know if the idea has been done or not. put all ideas in different categories.!! i shall take this up in the forum

It is a good idea, but watch out, Windows Vista comes with a very similar implementation of your concept.
