I think web 2.0 and CH are the missing link for ordinary people to contribute meaningfully in the new ways of creating wealth in this so called new economy.

The Idea

Dear all
My idea is to design a website that all the hospitals/private health institutes in each country, can post an ad for blood emergency issues indicating the type of blood in need, and the registered users will then received an SMS on their mobile in order to go/visit these hospitals/private health instutes and give blood in order to save some lifes. Its can work across the world. The registered hospitals/clinics and so on can also be the "peer networks" of this "SMS-World Bank - Blood Emergency".
We can make it work, not all the people are watching TV and listening to the radios but most people today they do have a cell phone.
Imaging someone that urgently needs blood in the US and i get an sms on my mobile, in my country in order to go and give blood for him/her cause its an emergency, i will spend 20 minutes of my life and thats all... For him/her though is a matter of life...

I thought of this idea when I was...

I thought of this idea when i was listening to an urgent ad in the radios that was a huge accident and they needed a blood donor.
The thing is that i was at the hospital when the injured person arrived and no one noticed me and when i was driving home i heard the ad, and the guy was needed the same blood type like mine. I felt bad about it and i said, i was going to do something in the future about it.
Blood donors they do same lifes but time is also a crucial factor...
Sms text takes only 5 seconds to delivered worldwide, imagine all the people

So it will be a hub?...might be too heavy works ahead and ineffective..try some community/country portal first..and take off from there. Check fossiloflife idea re blooddonor too..you might consider same platform to work on with.

Dear all
The hospitals in the several countries are going to be the peer networks.
Lets say you might need blood in the US, i will go here to the local to give blood and the hospital and will be able to sent it to the hospital in the US you are attending...

Blood only lasts so long once donated. Red Cross does a very good job at this already. HIPPA laws in the United States would probably prove a barrier to implementation.

Seems nice on paper. Need to c how it turns to reality.

Dear all

i know that the red cross is doing a great job, but the thing is that emergencies do occured in a daily basis. SMS text message will save time and therefore save lifes since time is important in these cases.
We can help the Red Cross to be more effective and serve the people in need faster...

I think the idea of sending blood to other countries where it is needed is unlikely to work due to transport restrictions, different quality testing rules in different countries, etc. I see no reason it wouldn't work to summon local donors in the event of an emergency.

Ok i know it will be difficult guys, but the thing is that lets say someone needs a matching donor of marrow of bones, because he/she is in danger with a touch of a button can the matching donor be found in any part of the world. within 5 seconds. Imaging the time and lifes to be saved.
I know that is a very diffucult task, but imagine the Advantage of a Worldwide database concerning blood types, or marrow of bones donors and so on...
If i was a patient i wouldnt mind travelling to US or to Germany in order to save time and save my life.
Solutions do exist, we just need to focus on the Advantages first the rest when it comes to save lifes always they do come last.
Please vote and keep and word out.

The worldwide outsourcing might not be very feasible..but i guess on national level its doable and create more consciousness on the general public for his brother in need.

Just my .2c

kotsios Posted: August 10, 2007, 5:07 am

I know will be difficult, but the thing is that the largest database the largest the possibility of finding a donor ASAP.
In national level will not be hard to implement, thats true though.
But anyways keep posting your comments and ideas guys.
Lets use our knowledge to make something for this world we are a part of.
All the nations must help each other in case of emegerncies that is my goal.
I appreciate you guys for all the time you spend to vote/comment on this idea.
All the best

I say focus on implementing it on a local, city-wide level. The residents might feel more compelled to donate since it's someone who live near them and the response time would be more manageable.

Yeah i agree that this should be tried in regional basis first then try to network when other city would follow.

how about just a simple "have you given blood today?" text message sent every 24 hours.

This can work within one nation, but across borders. It simply takes too much time to transport the blood, and besides there are all kinds of restrictions for it. But nationally it's a good idea.

In the US this could work really well within a community, but I doubt it could cross borders. I gave it 5 stars because it is a great local application.

I'm sure there's medical regulations for blood transfusion and such, and what stops the hospitals from using the blood themselves? But it's a good idea, you just have to trust the hospitals and transportation services a lot.

kotsios
kotsios Posted: August 13, 2007, 3:36 pm

Look guys the hospitals will issue an emergency alert of certain blood types then the coresponding persons of those types will receive an sms. Telling them that they need to go and give blood in order to save lifes the hospital will only issue it on emergency basis... or there was some idea from you guys to send sms on a regular basis as well...
Waiting for your ideas
All the best

An interesting idea, though there could be a lot of liability you would have to juggle.

We had a big law suit in Canada due to tainted blood being used - many got Hep C even HIV. For this to work we would need to ensure collection standard are similar to those in Canada.
