Mistakes will be made. But if a person is essentially right, the mistakes he or she makes are not as serious in the long run as the mistakes management will make if it undertakes to tell those in authority exactly how they must do their jobs.

Cambrian House began as a crowdsourcing community using a wisdom of crowds based approach to discover new business and technology ideas. These pages are being kept online as a technology demo to showcase Chaordix™.

The Idea

Podcasts are a great way to gain and share information, but they lack some basic tools available to written text. StickyNotes Player would be a mp3 player / annotator that provides electronic Sticky Notes functionality allowing referencing a particular portion of a Podcast without needing to chop up the file into multiple sections. Like in a book, a listener could create note holders while listening to a Podcast and add to them later. Then using the StickyNote Player users could jump to a book mark, view, edit or create new annotations etc. This meta-data could be stored in a separate file or tagged onto the end of the regular .mp3 file beyond the end of sound recording marker. Now users can send a link to a specific 5 minute segment of a 2hr file that they want to share. If the other user has the enhanced player, just send them the enhanced mp3 file (or mp3 file & extra meta-data). If they do not have it, send them a link to the StickyNotes Player download site & the mp3 file.

I thought of this idea when I was...

When trying to share a short portion of a long podcast with someone who was unlikely to listen to a 1hr + podcast. I started thinking about how podcast technology lagged behind written text. In addition to notes, urls to other podcasts and podcast portions could be embedded. This would allow users to cross-link related topics and build new networks of previously separate feeds and information. This is where real value is created, by adapting, linking and merging new content. Think: podcast wikis

I lke the idea! Brainstorming a bit -

The audio player could also have a little window for "notes" - In my own personal podcasts, I often say "I was looking at this website..." - it would be great for a URL to appear in the window at that timestamp.

Using this same feature, people looking to provide written commentary tracks on audio (or video!) can utilize it in a similar fashion.

Possible code inspiration can be culled from Winamp Plugins that show Lyrics in realtime.

Are the users paying for this application? If so would it then require anyone that they plan to send these sticky notes to have also purchased the product?
