The Idea

To deposit spent uranium into a live Volcano. it is a heavy element and should redily sink to deep levels,. it would ensure that no material as available to outside interests,

I thought of this idea when I was...

listening to the growing concerns of storing these materials and the possoble effects on ground water and theft

I guess you didn't count on any possible eruption bringing out some mighty fine molten and now radioactive lava and ash spewed into the atmosphere?

I think I saw this idea once in a comic book.

(just kidding, but yeah... eruptions would kill everyone in the planet with radioactive fallout lol)

It's already patented : http://www.patentlys...nt.php?patID=6846967 and http://www.freepaten...com/20030130557.html

Besides it's a silly idea : volcanos are regions where the magma comes out. Subduction areas are a much better choice. See http://ask.metafilte...waste-into-volcanoes for a whole discussion

Please do at least a Google search before posting an idea...

I am with the above, This is a noble idea but would never work.

I've been to a hot springs a few times and thought about how the water got hot. Apparently there are deep springs of water under the ground that come into contact with hot magma. Can you imagine the cellular breakdown that must occur when those radioactive particles rip through tissue? What once was a nice relaxing hot springs could potentially turn into "the springs of death". Probably an idea best left in the comic books.
