A market is never saturated with a good product, but it is very quickly saturated with a bad one.

The Idea

An online service where parents can register to recieve a text message from their child's school should they be marked as absent. Schools can upload and maintain student databases and associated contact details. Parents can register to recieve a text message from the school should their child not turn up, or some other important event occurs.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Volunteering as a school Governor in the UK and seeing first hand the negative effect of a childs regular unauthorised absenses from school.

Technology part would be super easy, getting schools to use it would be super hard. Integrating with their existing attendence system would be the only way I'd see them using it, but if you could do that, you'd have a very strong inroad.

When I was in school they would call home when there was an absence so it has basically been done but in a different way.
It may be difficult to get all schools on board with the more technical way just because they have limited funds and may not be able to pay someone to update all the info on the student data base.
