The Idea

A cell phone game that allows you to gamble a percentage of your bill against other cell phone users. So imagine I play a game (say texas holdem) on my phone against you, I win X amount of credits. On my next phone bill X is subtracted and X is added to your next bill.

I thought of this idea when I was...

People like to gamble right? People like to play games on their cell phone (sometimes)? Cell phone companies are looking for new ways to drive traffic onto their networks?

By only gamling against other users, the total impact upon a cellular networks revenue is postive b/c every dollar lost by one user is won by another, but there is an increased amount of cellular traffic.

You do realize that in NA you cannot send any payment via cell phone. The only thing you can do is to call a 900 number that charges X$, for example info services or phone sex numbers work like this. As for gambling, the US recently passed a new law forbidding all forms of internet gambling (which would also cover phones). Currently in the US, one cannot complete any transaction from any bank or credit card company that is related to gambling, even if the gambling site is offshore. In other words, you might be able to do it in Canada, but the biggest market (USA) is gone.

Good point, but I thought that one of the benefits of this is that there is no cash changing hands, just discounts (or incremental charges) on the bill.

Personally, I think that China would likely be a bigger market than the US, but not nearly as accessible...

Having this work against actual subscriber bill seems like potential trouble and confusion for customers. Most carrier and provider bills are already interlaced with weird and sometimes indecipherable charges, taxes, tariffs, and sacrifices to Jobu as it is. ;-)

I'm not sure adding another weird charge (or even a deduction) to the typical consumer communications bill, could be done without the potential for disastrous confusion and frustration to customers. The potential of new vectors for fraudulent additions to a customer's bill is a bit disturbing to me, too.

Good luck!

I don't think many phone company's would be on board with this one... to many complaints and fraud charges.
