The Idea

Building a great website - business - empire starts from the inside.

Why not create website that helps people craft their vision, mission and values, so that they stop working against themselves and are able to share their purpose in life with their friends and colleagues.

People can find other people with the same, or similar, purpose in life and subscribe to updates on what they're doing. You can pull in what you are doing from other services like twitter, your blog, flickr, shared rss feeds, other social networks, etc.

You can get daily reminders of your purpose in life to keep you on track, and if that doesn't work your network can give you a swift kick in the butt when they see you are drifting off course as seen from your activities which they subscribe to.

Finally, monetization. Well, I was thinking to offer service fees for extra personal development exercises and online group facilitation services. Or whatever, any suggestions?

I thought of this idea when I was...

While attending a group session on a 9 month business acceleration program which myself and my business partner were accepted into, before we even started on any business stuff we first we through extensive personal profiling and vision, mission, values exercises.

We found it really does help to write down your vision, mission and values and share them with everyone and ask them to critique it and get feedback and refine it. And when other people start writing down sharing their purpose in life with you, you begin to realize that we're not really all that different.

Our difference is in how we wish to accomplish our vision.

this is really good, I have a few ideas about this as well.

Thanks VassilisB, I like your idea too. I see their are overlaps.
Where your idea takes it from a gaming perspective, mine come from a more conventional social networking point of view.
Different target market, similar aim.

Wonderful idea. I'm curious to see what your design looks like (since I have no idea how to lay this out -- I'd be a good beta tester.)

Have you considered that success with this could launch you into providing games-as-training for all kinds of things that people might actually shell out money for? For example "Be a better CEO" or "Manage your group better" or even "More sales, faster." Maybe not so psychically rewarding but there's probably more money in executive training.

Hmm, I've never thought of creating a training resource out of it. I'm not sure that would work, since all content is user generated and thus subjective.
I think that Visionary should stick to its niche social networking service and others can create mashups from it, so I suppose their could come out of this a mashup service that combines VassilisB's "The Game" idea, providing the game/training aspect and my "Visionary" idea, providing the information aspect.
This is, of course, all out there. Comments, Criticisms?

Thanks Max,
I actually registered a free domain name and put a basic Drupal site up on our dedicated server to play around with this concept, but I'm heavily loaded with other work, and so I don't get much time to play around with it, which is why I stuck the idea up here, so other could maybe make something of it or whatever. check it out at http://www.yourvision.za.org.
I'm not much of a graphic designer, so forgive the crappy logo and empty look 'n feel.

I'm not sure there is any money in this idea. You'd have to go the advertising route, but I don't think this is compelling or viral enough to really attract the mass audience that advertisers would want.

Hmm, good points techguy. This will have to be viral as it depends on peoples motivation for personal development.
But I'm sure of the site is fun and attractive and marketed properly it could attract a large enough audience.
Maybe if the site is marketed as an aggregator of all other subscribed web services, but with a personal development angle to it.
Maybe I'm just grasping straws here, but there must be a large enough audience interested in a personal development and support community.
