The Elevator Pitch

For gift givers who want to send an unique online gift the Prezzle is a fun way to wrap online gifts that allows you to choose your wrapping, sounds, hints, and a personal note just like a real gift. Unlike ecards or digital gift certificates our product doesn't let your special someone open the gift until the day you chose.

The Idea

A Prezzle is the fun way to WRAP online gifts - with a time delayed opener. People will receive a Prezzle (animation) in their inbox. They will be able to view it, shake it, and receive a hint on what is inside, BUT they will not be able to open it until the date you choose.

This product has already been developed and deployed. You can use Prezzle today at: www.prezzle.com

Note: I am currently moving Prezzle from a B2C to a B2B model (i.e. don't sell gift certificates on Prezzle, but rather let other e-commerce vendors add Prezzle to their website).

I thought of this idea when I was...

This idea originated from MJ. He got tired of sending his brother an electronic Christmas gift every year, and having to wait until the day before Christmas to send it so his brother didn't know what he was getting him.

Something missing with the online gift giving experience is the anticipation that comes with opening the gift.

When you send gifts online such as a gift certificate, there is no joy because the recipient instantly knows what the gift is. It just lands in their email inbox.

Sound like you want to include an animated .gif with a sound in it? Or maybe its like the free "e-card" sites that send messages wrapped in cute graphics and sound.

Problem is the sites where you send these digital gifts from (amazon, giftcards.com, etc..) have their own interface.

The nice part of the unwrapping is the unwrapping, doing it digitally is not really what you want then. It could be nice if you as a sender send an email but the receiver receives a real box with wrapping and all. In it might be a memory stick with the present on it and a letter that's hinting to the contents of the memory stick.

I know it doesn't really make sense in the way that you'd could just as good send the information right away, but it does have that gift feeling. And yes it would be expensive, but hey, if you really care about someone, you'd pay the extra buck for that original gift, right?

CambrianHouse's own "Prezzle" is already similar to this. I think this functionality would be best served by being rolled into Prezzle.

the solution to this is as most of you already know is to have it online. yeah, but there are a lot of email gift packages out there, u get an email with a link. click the link.. u get to a page which opens the contents and reveals a greeting in flash or something. unless u want it like Julius says. a real gift a real wrapper. expensive maybe but hey its real. and ordering such gift items can be done online.

i thought that this was already implemented and running? (albeit not updated and somewhat abandoned)

or is this to gauge interest in the continuation of the project?

The same... Why is this idea back? It has been deployed...

Hi all,

Yes this idea has already been submitted and implemented.
You can use prezzle today at:

www.prezzle.com

We added it back to the IdeaExplorer in preparation for the upcoming release of some new functionality. We want to put Prezzle as a guinea pig for working on projects in Cambrian House.

So do not worry. You will never see Prezzle in IdeaWarz, and it is in no way competing with any community ideas.

Cheers - JR

halo jr,

do we have a hint what are those new functionalities?

JR
JR Posted: February 23, 2007, 8:08 am

Yes - they are related to turning your idea into a project. That means as an idea submitter, if you would like to build your idea yourself you will be able to recruit people from the community (programmers, designers, marketers) and build a team to help realize your project.

We are adding back products like Prezzle, Robin Hood Fund, and GWABS as test candidates for this new platform. So don't be surprised if you see these floating around as new ideas (they aren't really).

Cheers - JR

Hi,

This reminds me of a combination of Giftcertificates.com + animation + time delay. Personally, I am inundated with emails and would rather redeem a gift when I receive it and thus I might be a bit annoyed, but then again, that's perhaps the big attraction of the site. Actually, there are a few gift-related applications that have this anticipation factor (Amazon's Gold Box at the top of the size or the $1 random Bag of Crap on Woot http://www.woot.com/...aspx?BlogEntryId=814)
Good luck with this venture.
