A yoga class made for the confines of coach! A video and/or audio guide to lead passengers through a thirty minute movement and breathing routine, including yoga techniques for the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and even an abdominal workout. Useful for anyone who wants to arrive relaxed, rather than exhausted. By finding full range of motion even in the small space of an airline seat, users can reverse some of the damaging physiacl and emotionall effects of sitting for too long, and even learn some tricks to use anytime they are sitting to relax and rejuvenate- like in a meeting, a taxi cab, a dentist chair, at the hair salon...Panicky flyers will benefit, too, from the breath and meditation work. Would work well for more casual and hip airlines trying to stay innovative and inviting. It could be sold to an airline for their exclusive use, or individual users could download mp3's online or purchase the CD at an airport. I've already recorded the deomo, if anyone would like to try!
Based on what I learned from my last CD, Yoga in the Car with Jen Swain: Bumper to Bumper, this seemed the next logical step. I live in Los Angeles, and anyone who has experienced 45 minutes of gridlock knows the need to relax and find some freedom in the bucket seat. With the frequency of runway delays keeping passengers cooped up on the plane, and the dawning national recognition that preventative healthcare is the way to go, I think people are looking for new ways to make healthier choices. I'm a yoga teacher, and the biggest things that keep people from coming to class are packed schedule, and intimidation. Yoga on the Plane happens in time you've already given away, and it's a super safe way to get a flavor of yoga without stepping into a yoga studio.
Very interesting. I can see this getting really popular especially since it's aiming for such a targeted niche!
This could turn into a complete franchise even -- Stretching on the Plane, Weight Training on the Plane, etc.
Some in flight videos already offer stretching exercises one can do in the seat. I'm not sure it's a paid model where the individual sells the video to the airlines or it's free. My guess, in today's market, your best bet would be to offer the service ONLY to those airlines with private terminals as a plane full of 200 passengers would revolt against a yoga video. (They already have problems playing a full feature film.) If the traveler could select the segment themselves you'd get viewers who wish the product. Your model would then be to advertise yoga products they could then purchase from Skymall, the net, or retail.
A very relaxing and ideal concept!
I have a book of travel yoga, it has a small chapter on planes. It'd be great to have more of that sort of thing.
BRILLIANT SPECIALLY WHEN THE BODY NEEDS SOME EXERCISE ON THE PLANE
i think it is a good idea..i always wanted a lap dance on the plane!
Unfortunately I see far too many difficulties with this, including maintaining a secure environment, legalities over passangers potentially harming themselves through improper use of the exercise, height constraints, etc. I think this might be better suited for in-airport lounges, possibly with post- or pre-flight classes or something of that nature.
An excellent idea for airlines with on-demand individual viewing, like Air Canada. I can see some contraints if having to play it on a laptop or portable DVD player placed on the fold down table. I would certainly use it!
They tried this on airplanes and most people are too self conscious to do this.
I love it...would work well as a podcast (many iPods on plane). Give it a try. Call it "Crane on a Plane" or " Plane Yoga"
I don't know but don't you think thi is kind of dangerous on a plane????
Got something to say?
