A user subscription based online community where beginner, amateur and professional musicians can upload .mp3s/MIDIs of music they have composed for review by the community. This offers a way for constructive criticism from other Musicians and Music lovers as well as a good outlet for showing off. Subscribers music files would stream when the page with the content is loaded, with the option of uploading guitar tablature or sheet music scans to support the piece. Options for comments and ratings can be toggled. When uploading, music files could be placed into genre for easy browsing, tick boxes to enable little icons for what kind of instruments are in the piece. Possibility for community competitions (composing for genre) for cash or equipment - prices pooled from registration costs, along with entry fee to competitions. Non-subscribed users have access to listen to music. Have to register to comment, rate and upload, as well as access other community features, e.g. discussions.
I'm a musician, and have been recording songs in mp3 format and composing songs in MIDI for years. I'd love to have an outlet for my works where people can listen, rate and comment on my work. :)
Hi,
I think http://www.jamglue.com/ is very similar to ur idea.
"I think http://www.jamglue.com/ is very similar to ur idea. "
I'd disagree somewhat. This idea isn't about remixing already existing material. It's about true, from the scratch composers creating music supported optionally by sheet music or tablature for review by the site's community and guests. It targets music lovers for the music and appreciation of original material and it targets musicians as an outlet for their creativity with the option of receiving (what would hopefully be) constructive criticism. http://www.jamglue.com/, in depth, is nothing like my idea.
Could this be improved by allowing musicians to jam in realtime?
That's a cool idea, to jam in realtime! Though I think the programming behind that could cost quite some. Could be community projects whereby Musicians can multitrack record, playing to eachothers pre-recorded tracks and upload them to the "jamming session". Could be a brilliant way to produce "crowdsource" compositions. :)
Well there already is a site like this... Check it out. MacJams.com
