Website that profiles the work of charities and allows you to contribute financially to the projects that mean the most to you. Corporate sponsors get advertising and match donations with donations of their own. Contributors can set up a profile on the site and people who donate time or money are recognized for their contributions to charity. Granted this does not constitute a financially lucrative project but could potentially employ many people to manage the coordination of posting charity projects online. With secure online processing, contributors could arrange to donate regular amounts from their bank account (e.g., direct debit)
I never know what charities to give to and it would be great to see their work profiled online.

Does all of the above, plus lets you find expeditions to join as part of our sponsored team. A friend of mine cyled across Mexico as a result of this and arranged all her sponsorship via a page on the site that was automatically created, this also handled credit card payments for sponsorship.

Cheers Alastair - thanks for the link. It is much better to hear that these sites are already up and running, rather than hear that the idea is just crap!!
Hi, I'm working on a charity social network site with evaluations. A little bit of a different approach, it's not about the money, but about making the knowledge and trust we have about charities accessible to all. So people have an easier time finding a charity they like and can trust. Maybe you are interested in reading about it: www.makingthesite.com is my project blog.
