Cambrian House

I think web 2.0 and CH are the missing link for ordinary people to contribute meaningfully in the new ways of creating wealth in this so called new economy.
Cycko, Feb 2007

The Elevator Pitch

For bloggers who want to make an impact the Personal News Channel is a universally accessible platform that reaches beyond the traditional web surfer. Unlike other blogs/vlogs our product appeals to the largest demographic - TV viewers.

The Idea

Its a combination of Blogs, YouTube and AnnaNova. A web version of the 24 hour news channels on TV, except that all the content is user generated. Every user has their own channel through which they can broadcast personal news items. These could be photos, movies, text, sound clips etc. The news items are presented by an on-screen avatar with a customizable face and voice, with scrolling subtitles, and 'breaking news' when new items are added. Just like on TV, except you can click on the subtitles to jump straight to the story in question. All items will be tagged so that the site can be searched, and new aggregate channels produces by filtering the existing channels.

I thought of this idea when I was...

listening to The Archers today, I heard one of the characters talking about viewing someones holiday pictures on a blog whilst they were still on holiday. Then another said it was just like News 24. This got me thinking about how dull most blogs are and what could be done to make them more interesting and accessible. Some examples news items: - announcements (birth, death, marriage, anniversary,...) - vacation pictures - achievements (driving test, exam results,...) - hard news (incidents you witnessed of general interest) - jokes *Revenue* could come from selling special content for customizing the channels - such as news readers based on the real hosts, special effects, or customization tools. Or from adverts inserted into the content at regular intervals (just like TV). We should probably consider sharing revenue with the content authors.

I like the idea ... it is basically a streaming video blog of an individuals contibutions.

I think it can work for the individual having their own channel.

Simple submission tools for different types of content would be key with some ability to select content bridges, intros, fades, fillers, even adverts.

Live breaking mobile video, snaps and phone in stories could create an edge.

It would appeal to a wider populace and allow people to create something that they would not necessarily have the time or inclination to do on a normal blog or personal web page.

But the aggregation could be tricky, you don't want to have huge numbers of boring channels of the ilk of Aunt Fanny's holiday to Brighton, or cooey coo look at my new baby or puppy or do you... i suppose there are people into that stuff.

You would also have to have some way of controlling the content so that adult content doesn't get streamed to minors... people won't necessarily tag responsibly.

But the idea has promise.

Good idea.. SplashCast channel has been doing similar, if not exactly the same, for a while.. and ViaVol channel can manage them and other content at a higher level.. Both sites have been around for a while.. check them out. Both of channel types can be deployed virtually everywhere.
