The Idea

Not Technical ---but would love to document my idea so a technical team understands it. By guiding the User through an MSN like "Interview", logging all conversations and coming up with a completed document at the end.
This application will be the best Business/Systems Analyst.

I thought of this idea when I was...

after writing and re-writing the upteenth functional specification document for an application being outsourced.

See your point, maybe groupware can help out. I see possebilities even with different frames to be used.
Has potential.

This would be a great tool, but it would need to be a fairly complex expert system to ask all the right questions. When people are involved in this process, there's lots of back and forth trying to get clarification. Often, what a person describes initially is not really what they want when you draw them out and make them think through the details. That's straightforward for an experienced designer to do, but not straightforward to code as a questionnaire.

There's quite a challenge there, if you could make it grow organically like the 20Q system, that would be good.

This is the big monster in the closet that all tech projects face... writing good requirements. Nice try to take a swing at the problem, but more needs to be done to solve this monumental problem.

Yeah, I've gotten pretty good at writing documents that nobody initially wants to read but ends up using as a reference (this wasn't my intended path). I'm tired of cleaning up and slugging through other people's docs. I've read only a few docs in the last few months, that I've taken good points and practices.
DaveK I'll have to get more info on 20Q system.
