The Idea

A BBQ timer application that works on my Palm Treo. It remembers what worked last time and knows that one side gets a bit more time than the other side.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Cooking steaks...too long or too short.

What about a barbecue that turns the meat by itself and knows by analysing the air when it ready? It could then send a sms to your mobile.

Or practice more. Food tastes better with love and attention. Or have a child, preferably a sensible one and buy a whip. Whips being cheaper then palm treos.
This would be a great five dollar Pocket PC application if it was made to be the ultimate food timer. Heck why not add recipes and go the full banana.

My treo and my grill. I see exactly where that's going to end up and it smells like burned plastic.

You could simply use the alarm to time, and a note for the preferences. Also, stakes all cook differently so you could never time them exactly.

Steak aux Treo?

It may have been done (a la vanhees) but amazingly enough a simple timer is not always done well.

My current cell phone is a great example - to program it to ring an alarm in 10 minutes is a 7 step procedure!

But overall I agree with Patmania and micco. Stop multi-tasking and give yourself over to the domestic goddess. Cook when you cook, Treo when you Treo. The Zen approach.

Well jill most cellphones are a disaster although mine does it in three clicks.
But I agree with you no multitasking when your cooking.

I am a horrible cook especially when it comes to the BBQ. The biggest problem is that I don't know who long it takes to cook certain meats. The second biggest problem is that I often get distracted by something outside or the cell phone.

If you could fill the application with different cook times for different types of food I think it could be very cool!
