The Idea

AdlibbildA.com (ad lib builder)

The platform would be much like youtube as far as uploading, searching and viewing goes. The twist is this, you first record your chosen nouns, verbs, adj, pronouns ect. This is done with a microphone that you record in seperate wave files.
Then, once you submit your choices, they are mixed in to fill the silent spots of a video in ad lib format.
After a free trial that allows you to create from scratch or choose previously uploaded videos which you will use to build your ad lib video, you will have to subcribe as a paying member if you want to create another. Paying members will be allowed to build an unlimited amount of ad lib videos with the downloadable software application. This will allow easy audio editing where nouns, verbs, adj ect. will be replaced with silence.
Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of doing ad libs can imagine how interesting this will be. Guests to the site will be free to search and view finished ad lib video

I thought of this idea when I was...

During the mid ninties I was dating a fun girl named Laura. She would always be asking for me to give her a noun or a verb to fill in the blanks in the short stories that she so loved to write.
The other day while I was gathering the loose pages of my dream journal that had become strung throughout my poetry, I kept finding those ad libs that we built together. The more I read the more I became aware of our ability to create some very intersting literature. I laughed and laughed as I realized this idea hidden inside the beautiful memory of a girl who inspired me.

Did this fun girl also like to dissect sharks?

I agree with Ccozad: I like this idea.
What would help you get my 5 stars, is if you add a link to an example.

This might be fun to do now and then, but I'm not sure people would come back day after day. I think you might have to provide additional community building activities ( contests, rating systems, ect ) to keep people returning.

As well, this could get really expensive for all the bandwidth needed. If you can tie it in with an existing video hosting provider, it'd probably be more economical to develop, and allow you to focus on ad-lib specific content, while letting video hosting experts handle those requirements.

Well, personally I would try and cut out the recording. I remember that visa had a online contest where you would fill in there priceless commercial.

Here is an existing online game by madlips:

Wait I'm not sure I get this.

Someone uploads audio file to overlay onto a video with nouns/verbs cut out?

Or

Someone uploads video file with noun/verbs cut out and lets others upload audio file to fill in those nouns/verbs?

I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to PAY to do this.

I suspect the insertions would be somewhat less seamless in a video than in a short story, and perhaps that will lessen this site's appeal. It'd be nice to see/hear an example.

I am not sure I understand either... For us non-adlibbers, could you explain the usefulness of this. Sounds to me like a purely entertainment type site that a friend would send me via email and I might play around with it for 20 mins (if it was fun), forward to a couple people and then forget it ever existed. Not trying to be pessimistic, I just fell like I am missing the use of adlibbing. An example would be great!

Thank you all for your comments. I Plan on uploading an example video to youtube if this idea makes it to the next level. Lets make this interesting. Please, everyone post a comment containing 1 noun 1 verb 1 pronoun 1 adjictive & 1 adverb.

HINT: The video will be about Cambrian House.

Is this supposed to produce funny videos?

bailey

The CH example video could have anti-climactic results as far as "funny videos" go. So lets not do the Cambrian house one. Instead, I will film a talking dollar bill and give it a silly dialog.
