The Idea

Online marketing ideas for products. The ideas for products and services need brandnames and marketing ideas. This would be a website where the marketing of products, brand identity and so on would be opened up to the power of the crowds. Companies would submit their un-branded products to the website (or produce that needs RE-branding!), upon which the crowd would submit their ideas and so forth on the marketing of the product/service. The best one, or the most popular idea as far as the community and the company are concerned wins, and get a slice of the revenue of the product/service. Expanded idea: http://oomattoo.wordpress.com/2007/01/08/in-the-pipeline-the-marketing-place/

I thought of this idea when I was...

Reading a book by Stephen Fry who was discussing marketing and how corporations tend to have bad ideas for marketing products: I mean; elephant.co.uk? Its terrible. More of the idea: http://oomattoo.word...the-marketing-place/

Cool and fresh.

But there's a glitch here: unbranded products, online? What about trade secret protection? I don't think any company would want their product exposed before they know how to market it, do they?

Just my 2 cents ;)

Zackle,

Cheers for your input :)

Can't unbranded products be protected by a patent application? I'm not really up on all the patent laws etc but I'm sure if the product was top secret they wouldn't want to use the site anyway..

I like the overall concept (very Wikinomics-eque). Companies open to this would need to be willing to take some risks. I don't see the concern being someone stealing the product concept. What would worry me more is cyber-squatters registering addresses for good names before the product owner could.......

Looking at gregpoiriers point: it would work for sure for slogans.

Actually I see this as something that could work?

The problem would be NDAs.

If I want to brand a new product... I don't want everyone to know about it before hand.

So if you could solve that aspect of your idea... Then I think you have a chance.
