For travelers or curious people who see something and don't know what it is the Social Object Identification System is a social network and user generated content site that allows people to upload images or video specifically for the purpose of identification. Unlike broad based video or photo sharing sites our product fills the niche of identifiying what is contained in the photos or videos.
share videos/photos and get opinions on what it is from the locals could be a mashup with YouTube and/or Flickr. Perhaps a large portion of the infrastructure is already in place. upload pictures / video of object to website via web page MMS/email smart client via data services geo-tag the item or tell where it is, the more specific the better people in that area help identify the item identification of identifier is kept anonymous until after voting they get points for identification other people vote on the validity of the identification if enough people vote "yes", the points are awarded points can be redeemed for something later (if it is deemed necessary to reward identifiers; this might come later) notifications sent via email, RSS, or SMS users can sign up to be notified when an item is posted in their area people who upload can be notified when answers are posted objects can be shared/embedded via widgets business model = local advertising
I saw a crazy looking tower, a style that I had not recalled seeing before and wanted to know what it was. Outside of asking people around there what it was, I didn't know what else to do. I thought, how cool would it be to be able to take a picture of this with my camera phone, upload it to a site along with the location, and get an answer potentially in a few minutes via SMS.
