For anyone who needs to find something quickly the Gps Phone YellowPages is a mobile phone application that shows nearby atms, Kinkos, Starbucks, and whatever else you are looking for. Unlike other products that run on bulky GPS devices our product is targeted to mobile phones.
An mobile phone application that allows you to find points of interest (POI) near you. You can look for POI's by name or by tag. The application will discover your current location using the GPS chip on the phone, or if not available, will allow you to select your approximate location.
A typical use would be like this: you're in traffic, and you need to find the nearest Peets (or Starbucks if there are no Peets nearby). You flip open your phone, open GpsPhoneYellowPages, check the coffee tag, select 3 mile radius, and hit search. You will see a list of matches reverse sorted by distance, with the ability to view address/phone #'s.
The business model is simple. The app is free to end users. Standard listings are free, but businesses who want premium listings and other advertising are charged a fee.
Looking for the closest Kinkos while sitting in a parking lot with my car idling .. it took me 3 time consuming calls and about 15 minutes to find it, and I thought there's gotta be an easier way.
dont have to use 411
The GPS chip is not needed! In any mobile phone you could have your Cell ID (and many srevice providers let your Cell name be displayed on your phone). Just the cell ID plus a database of operators and their cell locations and sizes lets this application work. With this option, the application could work automatically and inform you whenever you're neat the thing you want!
Another application would be to show you road options in the area.
In the UK at least, Orange has this service on its GPRS portal.
