The success of any kind of social epidemic is heavily dependent on the involvement of people with a particular and rare set of social gifts.

The Idea

Art is nice to have in a home or office, but people's taste and styles change. A website where users could swap, rent, or borrow art would be an interesting way to combat "stale" art. In one scenario, the site would lease out art for a monthly fee, a la Netflix, or they might be able to rent art for a monthly term. In another scenario, users could swap art on the site. Users could contact each other directly, or through the site to arrange terms. For instance, one large piece of art could be traded to someone else for 3 or 4 smaller pieces of art. By allowing users to update their art and trade back in the art they no longer need, savvy users could keep their art up to date with styles and their own personal tastes, and they could also expiriment or experience new art they may not have been exposed to in the past.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Shopping for art is hard, and you can never be sure if it is really going to "work" where it is placed.
