Cambrian House is a very interesting idea - crowdsourced software. Their goal is to leverage the wisdom of crowds to both receive as well as filter business ideas, code and creative content.

The Elevator Pitch

For adults and children who want protection from the damaging rays of the sun while smelling great (or not smelling at all) the Sun Scents Sunscreens is a sun protection lotion that does not emit the traditonal "sunscreen smell", with unscented or perfume/cologned scents. Unlike current sun screen lotions, which have a telltale smell our product allows you to maintain your professional appearance...and smell, while at the office, during meetings and presentations. For, kids there is a fun variety of fruity or bubblegum scents..

The Idea

Skin cancer awareness is at an all time high, and sunscreen is highly recommended to prevent it. However, many people do not like to wear sunscreen because of its telltale "sunscreen smell". This odor prevents many from wearing it in the work environment. In the office or other professional setting one must present a professional appearance...and smell at all times.

This would be a line of sunscreens for adults and children. The line will host unscented, perfumed ad cologned scents, which are high SPF and appropriate for body and/or face application.

Also, aimed at children, will be various, fun and kid-friendly scents such as "bubblegum" or fruit scents. These fun scents will engage children to protect themselves in the sun while at school, the pool, or just playing around the neighborhood. The fun scents will make sunscreen appliation fun for kids, as they can choose the scent they want, and show off the smell to friends.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Living in Arizona my entire life, where the summer sun is brutal and damaging. Putting on sunscreen is a virtual necessity here during the summer months. I wanted a way to make it more of a personal beauty, or perfume/cologne product that was work-friendly, so I could wear it at office and during meetings without worry about how I was percieved by others.

Living in Australia - the most arid inhabited continent on earth gives me the same take on how important sunscreen is...

many womens makeups have an SPF factor already, so half the population won't need your new product.

Most males are way too macho to admit that sunscreen is a good idea. I am sure there are 'unscented' sunscreens out there already.

To change the perception of others, tell them that you don't want skin cancer. If they don't smoke, ask 'em why not, as that is a much more reliable way to get cancer. If you are lucky, they will see the connection.

Great idea - if it's possible. I believe the chemicals in sunscreen have a smell. It can be covered by other smells, but maybe not eliminated. Maybe a different base could be found - or maybe I'm wrong.

I work for a major independent suncare company and I don't think you have any idea how much money is required to research, develop, market, package, and distribute even one product and compete with the "Big Boys". Skincare is a multimillion dollar industry which is dominated by Nutrigena, Plaxtex and other such companies. Good luck getting this off the ground.

I hate to say it... but if the sunscreen company's have not come up with it yet then there must be something wrong with the idea.
