The Idea

Our every day use of rss feeds, IMs, mails, our blogs visits, leave vast amounts of attention data, which help track our computer-based activities, while also permitting existing or future smart agents to analyze our habits, interests, points of view, ... Besides, we all develop a certain amount of tacit knowledge over the years, which has to be transmitted if it is to survive us. Our everyday social interactions, our work practice all contribute to the growth and development of such a knowledge, which is more or less reflected in the attention data we've unknowingly created. Let's reclaim that valuable data and put it to use for the breeding of our own avatars! Each time we'll use a web service, we'll also be feeding an avatar with the attention data we'll have created. The more we'll be online, the more our avatar will grow. Since it will also interact with other avatars, we should soon see a new type of avatars emerge, which will help us learn new skills, solve problems, ...

I thought of this idea when I was...

Enter William Gibson, Tom Clancy 's Net Force, Spotlight, Justin Hall, AttentionTrust.org, Casual Games, Second Life, the Knowledge Navigator + Transitioner visions. Their ideas and principles played a key role in helping me devise Gahlaiba?, a new breed of Web-based avatars, which will expand on our current use of social software as a relational artifact.

It sounds like you might be suggesting something interesting, but I'm not sure what exactly you're hoping to store...

Its sweet, really sweet, but making sure this information is used just by the person, both legally and psychologically doesn't seem easy at all!
