The Idea

A small AC powered air conditioner that sits by the bed and connects via a small hose to a specially designed duvet that gently blows cool air onto the sleeper though perferations throughout the blanket. Perfect for people who live in hot climates, especially those who like the feeling of a blanket on them when they sleep.

It would be much more energy efficient than blasting cool air through an entire room/house. Since the energy required to cool the area under a duvet should be less than the energy required to cool a whole room.

Perhaps the energy savings would pay for the unit in a relatively short period of time.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Reading rave reviews about higher end autmobiles (SAAB, Lexus?) that funnel the A/C through the seats

Why don't people just use a blanket, and put a fan our something on them. I'd be afraid my penis would shrink up, man that would suck.

ok now jus a funny thought wat about people like me who roll a lot while sleepin...wat will happen to the hose?? :D

fozzie Posted: May 31, 2007, 10:56 pm

Well someone patented a ventilated blanket in 2004, which blows (no pun intended).

To fossiloflife: I suppose the hose gets tangled?

Fozzie, if you want to sleep it is better to have a fresh mattrass and they exist if you think of a waterbed....

um, if you're hot - you could take the blanket off (and sleep with a sheet only)!

An AC powered air compressor would be to noisy - what about a peltier effect TE (thermo-electric) cooler based unit? Just needs 12V DC. and would likely provide sufficient cooling, though I'm not sure hoses in a duvet are the useful delivery system. the body would likely not like the cool air. Better the duvet had liquid filled hoses and the liquid was circulated by a quiet water pump, radiator and fan (maybe a TE as well). Then the net effect would be to pull heat from the hot body/bed.
